Dads4Kids, also known as Fatherhood Foundation, is a hate-group led by Christian fundie, Warwick Marsh. He's acting as though he's the global leader/organiser/owner of International Men’s Day. He's appropriating the movement to spread hate against LGBTQIA+ people, women, and the concept of feminism. He's on record for making transphobic comments such as "homosexuality is a mental disorder" and "many have left the homosexual lifestyle," which I think amounts to promoting the harmful practice of "gay conversion." I think Warwick Marsh exudes Divorced Dad Energy, and he appears to hate anyone who he feels is a threat to his sense of entitlement and toxic masculinity.

CW: On "International Men's Day" (discussion of misogyny, self-harm, medical issues, transphobia)
because I'm seeing posts about "International Men's Day" circulating today - and because I'm inherently skeptical of anything centering men - I went ahead and visited the official International Men's Day website to poke around a bit.
and, god*damn* is this website full of shady shit and dubious claims.
for example, navigating to their "Challenges" page, we see five points listed regarding "men's issues:"
men have a suicide rate 3 times higher than women
file this under "true but misleading." while men's suicide attempts are more likely to be lethal, women are statistically more likely to have suicidal thoughts, and women attempt suicide three times as often as men.
1 in 3 men have been the victims of domestic violence
hmm, I wonder who the other two out of three are... :blobfoxthinking:
men on average die 4-5 years before women
again, true but misleading. this gap is due to the fact that men are more likely to die of substance abuse, suicide, and homicide; less likely to seek preventive medical care; and less likely to use sunscreen, among other things. in other words: as with the suicide discrepancy, the issue is male violence and recklessness - all things that patriarchy rewards.
men are nearly twice as likely to suffer from lung cancer than women
this is just plain false, and easily disproved with a simple google search

the exact nature of this topic is a pretty deep rabbit hole, but the statistic seems to be drawn from a 2016 Australian study finding that coronary heart disease (CHD) was diagnosed 1.7 times as often in men as in women.
note the wording there: "was diagnosed." in actuality, this discrepancy is based on gender biases in medicine leading providers to underestimate risk factors for women compared to men. as a result, women are more likely to die from CHD than men.
as always, "men's issues" aren't actually limited to men - nor are men even the worst affected by them. as another feminist on fedi recently put it: women experience all of the things that men do, except for the privilege of being men.
oh, but the bullshit doesn't end there. poking around a bit more, I found the website's "30 Great Manhood Quotes" under the 'Resources' header. there, it didn't take me long to find a name that I recognized, ironically under number 13: Camille Paglia, notorious TERF. quoting from her WIkipedia page:
Paglia says that she is "highly skeptical about the current transgender wave" which she thinks has been produced by "far more complicated psychological and sociological factors than current gender discourse allows". She said that the "cold biological truth is that sex changes are impossible" and that she rejects "state-sponsored coercion to call someone a "woman" or a "man" simply on the basis of his or her subjective feeling about it."
if this is the sort of person that the folks behind "International Men's Day" think is worth highlighting on their website, then maybe all you trans men out there should think twice about supporting them.
anyway, I've seen enough. I'm reasonably sure that this shit's an MRA psyop. and we do not, in fact, have to hand it to the MRAs.

Great opportunity to reflect on our shared privilege. We all need to work together to address toxic masculinity and gender inequality that are at the root of so many of today's world's problems.
We need to learn to call each other out, just saying "not cool, man" can make a big difference.
And we also need to embrace being vulnerable and not be afraid to ask other men for help. And be there for other men seeking help.
It's not the responsibility of other gender groups to provide us with free emotional labor.

As a cis man, #InternationalMensDay sounds like a joke, especially considering the current hellscape.
What's there to celebrate? That a female presenting coworker needs to work twice as good as me to reach my step on the ladder, and even then, she will never be paid as much as I'm paid? That whenever I have a brilliant female presenting coworker on my team, I need to fight my male presenting bosses so that she gets the recognition she deserves?
Are we celebrating privilege?
