Today is #InternationalHumanRightsDay.
I have been focusing on human rights defenders over the past 20 years. I really hope that nobody would be detained or harassed simply for expressing their views. Yes, that’s my good wish. Might be naive when there are authoritarian regimes. Some people might argue that raising awareness of these human rights defenders wouldn’t have much impact. Only international advocacy can put pressure on countries like China.

We're in touch with a number of trans Ugandan people in Kenya and, whilst things were bad before, things are getting worse. #OTD 10 December 1924: the first gay rights organisation in the US, the Society for Human Rights, was founded in Chicago by postalworker and army veteran, Henry Gerber, inspired by the work of Magnus Hirschfeld in Germany. It lasted a few months, until police arrested Gerber and several others.
