I just rewatched the first episode and it's quietly hilarious, deep, subversive, insightful, and humanely human.

A thoroughly original show that celebrates and skewers tv in general, and the ubiquitous (in the U.S., at least) crime drama police procedural format, specifically (and accurately).

A gang war? In Golden Palace?

  2. Watching a new-ish series called "Interior Chinatown" and it's pretty good, at least the pilot is pretty good. Ronny Chieng from the Daily Show is a supporting character.

The art direction and production are good. Very stylish, interesting concept and some good humour. Seems worthy of a few more episodes.

  3. I'm watching Interior Chinatown (2024). I’m loving it. I’m so intrigued, but I’m so confused.

What the show is the show actually about? Is he dead? Is it a fantasy? Is he writing the show John Malevich style?

It’s like an anthology of 80s Chinatown cops procedurals. It’s so meta.

  4. Watched “Int. Chinatown” second time and Ben Sinclair, of High Maintenance, as director on ep. 2.

Taika Waititi showrunning, so not a surprise, this quality. Hit right in the heart.

All the subtle Wong-Kar-Wai references sprinkled here and there too.

Up there with “The Curse” and final “How to with John Wilson” as far as TV goes for 2024 for me. Strange, self-referencing, surreal mainstream TV is where it’s at.

    *sigh*

  5. Okay so this year has been very good in terms of TV series in general, but Interior Chinatown is capping it off at a high note. This is so fun!

  6. Watching the series Interior Chinatown and LOVING the parallel to the Sam Wo's in San Francisco, Edsel Ford Fung lives on!

  7. INT. CHINATOWN

I just finished watching the final two episodes and I have a big, satisfied grin stuck on my face and my heart grew a few sizes.

I got hints of Truman Show and The Player the last four episodes, and there's so much in this series that I need to rewatch it, a few times, probably.

I mean, the chyrons must mean something, right?

#InteriorChinatown, a contender for best #tv show of the year, and belongs among the all-time greats.

A bit of hopefulness in these dangerous times.

  8. It is fully our bonkers season right now over here, so we don’t have a lot of downtime, but Mr. Sara put on #InteriorChinatown the other night and we just finished it tonight and I am speechless.

My only regret is not reading the book before the TV show came out. Wow.

  9. INT. CHINATOWN

I'm watching two episodes at a time, which is my usual limit, but it's very difficult to not plow through them all.

It's also Twilight Zone meets Sorry to Bother You; a tv show that feels extremely familiar and unlike anything else, all at once.

The production is fantastic; grounded and surreal, using the procedural format to mock and deconstruct the foundation of nearly every tv drama, across genres.

  10. Why doesn't he just write down the order? He has a pad in his back pocket and he was just using a marker. #InteriorChinatown

  11. INT. CHINATOWN

A show on Hulu/Disney+ that throws police procedurals (dun dun), kung fu flicks, Everything, Everywhere All at Once, and more into a blender to render a serious comedy that does a great job of mocking the lack of imagination in Hollywood, in every way, and its fundamental racism, focusing on how the system treats and portrays Chinese characters and culture, specifically, and Asian characters and culture, generally.

    Highly recommend.
