Vielleicht zeigt sich interkulturelle Kompetenz gar nicht daran, wie viel wir über andere Länder wissen, sondern daran, wie schnell wir merken, dass unser eigenes „So macht man das eben“ nur eine von vielen Möglichkeiten ist.

Im Arbeitsalltag reicht dafür manchmal schon ein Satz, eine Pause oder ein anderes Verständnis von Höflichkeit. Technik kann übersetzen. Verstehen müssen wir noch selbst.

A bilingual slide has a message to Japanese people about adapting to the foreigners in their midst. Show it to any Japanese people you know who are hesitant about intercultural communication:
