On board the #DeutscheBahn π©πͺ #InterCityExpress #116, northbound over the scenic #Tauernbahn π¦πΉ line. This #ICE4 trainset has got a #DB #Bordrestaurant #DiningCar, with a bar area and table seating. A good spot for lunch. Chicken curry and a Bavarian beer πΊ, always a good choice. @diningcar

@GrahamDowns I love flying and I like driving, but maybe you have to experience working #PublicTransport to really appreciate how awesome it is and why property prices actually rise and do not fall π
Because then also the lifestyle you describe is possible without cars and with you having to drive your kids everywhere every day.
That is actually on of the (few... π ) things I am missing a lot here in #Johannesburg & #SouthAfrica in general.
When I am in #Germany, I am traveling a lot between '#Munich and #Hamburg currently (about 620km as the crow flies). I am practically always doing that by #IntercityExpress (ICE) trains, the German #HighspeedRail network. It is about 7h from door to door, approx an hour or two more than flying but a bit cheaper and much more convenient.
I buy one ticket which includes the #subway in Munich and Hamburg, I need to be at the train station only 5-10min before the train departs. I have #Wifi in the train and ample space to work, read, sleep. There is a dining car or in First Class (which is a bit more spacious) service at your seats.
Unlike when flying, I don't spend an hour waiting here, standing in the security queue, waiting an hour there, flying one hour etc.
If I miss a train, no problem, there are at least hourly connections between all major and medium sized cities (something like #RichardsBay or #Makhanda in South Africa), so I take the next one.
