  1. A Day in the Life at Duffney’s Bird Barn

How I balance a remote career, homesteading, crochet, writing, and motherhood—one day at a time. People often ask me how I find time to do everything. Honestly... Some days I wonder the same thing. The weeds don't always get pulled. The laundry doesn't always get folded. The dishes aren't always done when I want them to be. Some crochet projects take longer than I planned, and there are days when my to-do list is still staring back at me when it's time for bed. I've learned that's […]

  6. If I Don’t Get the Years, I Want the Minutes

Berry and I have lived our life side by side for nearly fifteen years now. Not “most of the time” .... We stay together. When we work, we work together. When we run errands, we run them together. When we go for a drive, we both get in the car or truck. Some people might look at us and think it’s too much - too close, too constant, too together. But they don’t live our life. They don’t know our story. They don’t know what I've lost, or how fast I've seen life can change. Some […]

  16. ✮ Blinker ✮

We spend so much time blinking and looking away,
we blink so much that we don’t realize our fuse is alight.
    A turn of the dial,
    into another scene,
    never rooted in the moment,
    as transient as everything mortal.
We blink, to erase the unpleasant,
    we blink, to jump forward,
    coil our bodies around rest,
    wrap paychecks inside our hands,
so, we can blink a little more.
We skip and jump out of the day,
when tomorrow is worse than today,
    we blink it away,
as if we have unlimited blinks,
and soon enough we’ll hit a wall
and wish we could have kept our eyes open
    more frequently.

Here today; gone tomorrow, never take anything for granted.

When complaining about long walks, someone is dreaming of having such luxury. Walks that people take for granted mean everything to someone else who is bound by a condition that prevents them from doing so. They could be bedridden; they could be hiding in fear in a war zone; they could be impeded by physical conditions that limit them.

You complain about tidying up. It’s because you have a home. You stress out over traffic. It’s because you have a car. You can’t deal with the noise. You have a family. Someone out there wants what you have but can only dream of it.

When frowning in dissatisfaction over a prepared meal, think about that person who took time and poured every ounce of their heart, hoping to bring you happiness. Think.

Be grateful that you are in school; not everyone is afforded such an opportunity. Not as a promise to secure a job, but to learn. Bitterness often comes from discounting what people already have. Contentment, as they say, is the key to happiness. Dream, but be forgiving. If it’s yours, it will come to fruition. If not, steady your heart and live with what you have.

Never neglect people or things that add, give, and bring value to your life. Blessed are those who can’t count how many people they love with their fingers. If you do, you’re already rich. Hurray! You will have someone to turn to.

At the end of the day, when all that you take for granted is gone, what will be left of you?

  23. Embracing the In-Between: The Power of Seasonal Pauses

There are moments each year when the world seems to hold its breath. Not quite the season we’re leaving, not yet the one we’re entering. A soft in‑between. A hinge. A threshold. A pause.

This pause is subtle. It’s the way the light shifts — not dramatically, but with a quiet insistence that something is changing. It’s the way the air feels different on the skin, carrying a new texture, a new temperature, a new intention. It’s the way the body senses a turning before the mind has language for it. In these in‑between days, nature loosens her grip.

The trees stop striving upward and begin listening downward. The soil exhales. The wind rearranges itself. Even the birds seem to linger a little longer on the branch, as if deciding which direction to take next.

We, too, are invited into this pause.

The pause between seasons is a reminder that transitions aren’t meant to be rushed. They are meant to be felt. This is the space where we gather ourselves — the pieces we’ve scattered, the lessons we’ve lived, the parts of us that grew quietly while we weren’t paying attention.

It’s a moment to ask gentle questions:
What am I carrying that no longer fits the season ahead?
    What wants to be softened?
    What wants to be tended?
    What wants to be released?
Photo by Lucas Pezeta on Pexels.com

In this sacred pause, the body becomes a listening place. The nervous system loosens. The breath deepens. The mind stops reaching for answers and instead leans into awareness. We remember that change doesn’t happen in the moment of arrival — it happens in the space just before.

This is the wisdom of the in‑between: life is not a series of clean beginnings and endings. It is a continuous unfolding, a slow turning, a rhythm that asks us to trust the spaces where nothing seems to be happening.

    But something is happening.
    Integration.
    Reorientation.
    Recalibration.
A quiet gathering of strength for whatever comes next.

When we honor the pause between seasons, we honor our own becoming. We step into the next chapter not by force, but by attunement — aligned with the deeper pace of the world around us.

Allow yourself time today to pause and listen. Listen to the pause in the breath between the inhale and the exhale. Listen to your body as it whispers what it needs. Listen to the earth beneath you- steady, patient, unhurried, let the small moment of stillness be a reminder that you don’t have to rush your way into the next season of your life. You can arrive slowly with presence, with softness, and with trust in the quiet wisdom that’s already guiding you.

Try a one-minute grounding pause to help you soften, settle, and come back to yourself with gentle cues to release your shoulders. Feel your weight supported and find one steady point in your body. This quick reset helps you remember that you are here and you are safe. You can begin again at any time.

  24. The Micro-Adjustment Tracker: A Practical Tool for Small, Honest Change

A micro-adjustment is not a goal. Goals have a finish line. A micro-adjustment is a small, deliberate shift tested across enough time to generate honest data. The tracker is what makes that information visible rather than letting it dissolve into general intention after three days.

  25. Cultivating Calm with Sunday Softening Practices

Last year’s unpredictability led my focus to waver; my essays, meditations, and Instagram feed transitioned from careful curation to something more spontaneous and less intentional. Despite the time constraints that challenged my efforts, my desire to maintain a presence remains strong, as I aim to share creations that, in turn, provide others with glimpses of the peace I have discovered through various mindfulness practices.

    Finding Stillness

I am shifting back towards more deliberate, niche-centered posts that enable not only myself, but readers and viewers as well, to find that still point amidst the unpredictability of life. Although this unpredictability remains unchanged, my experiences over the past year have taught me patience and provided the wisdom to accept life’s inherent uncertainty.

    Allowing Flow

We often hold assumptions and expectations without justification, which can cloud our judgment and hinder personal growth. This journey leads us to realize the significance of flow—not just as a concept but as a transformative experience that allows us to engage deeply with the present moment.

    Reflection

It is a topic I’ve explored extensively in my essay, Open Awareness: The Gift of Gracious Acceptance, where I delve into the nuances of being open to life’s unpredictable nature. Embracing this mindset can lead to profound insights and inner peace. To complement these reflections, I invite you to explore the meditation below, which serves as a practical guide to cultivating this sense of flow and serenity in your daily life.

    Gentle Reminders

I often revisit my own writings and meditations as life becomes overwhelming, making it difficult to maintain a sense of peace. We need gentle reminders and practices that we can slip into during hectic moments. Over the past few weeks, I’ve actively engaged with the basics of meditation, yoga, and lymphatic flow movement, aligning my mind, body, and spirit energetically to a state of calm amid the chaos. From this still point, I aim for my work to feel deeper, more genuine, and authentic.

    Work Week Flow

I am on an inviting journey that embraces the comforting essence of Sunday softening. For many, including me, Sunday is that cherished interlude before the hustle of the workweek kicks in. It’s a day infused with serenity and anticipation. While meditation and writing ignite my creative spirit, I work full-time as a professional in chemistry and geology. This unique mix allows me to relish my Sundays as the slow day before diving back into a more technical workflow. This path not only enriches my experience but also offers you a touch of softness and warmth as you prepare to face the new week ahead.

    Sunday Softening

Sunday softening invites you to take a moment to feel your breath and your body, actively noticing tension and where emotions reside in your body, and allowing for a gentle release. As you breathe in deeply, envision the air filling your lungs and nurturing your spirit, while you exhale, let go of the burdens of the week behind you. It serves as a small reminder of who you are beneath the labels, revealing the essence of your true self, which gets overlooked in the busyness of life. In this sacred time, allow yourself to reconnect with your inner being, appreciating the stillness and presence that is always available to you. Recognize that you can return to this mindful space at any moment, embracing the peace and grounding it offers, cultivating a sense of calm that can guide you through the challenges ahead.

These posts will be shared each Sunday on Instagram, Facebook, and right here. I warmly invite you to share your word in the comments, and together, we can create a safe space to hold those thoughts.

  32. Are you living your life on auto-pilot? It’s easy to get caught in the slipstream of daily routines, but there is a certain magic in taking the controls and choosing to be here now.

This vintage biplane design is more than just aviation art; it’s a call to action for anyone who loves intentional living and the thrill of the open sky. Whether you are a pilot, a travel lover, or someone practicing mindfulness, this retro airplane illustration serves as a visual anchor to stay grounded in the moment.

Inspired by classic flight school aesthetics and minimalist typography, this piece looks incredible on a graphic tee, framed art print, or a minimalist hoodie. Stop drifting through the clouds of "tomorrow" and start navigating your "today." ✈️

  39. Presence

    Wouldn’t it be nice…
    To arrive with something
    Made by hand
    A page where colors once
    Listened to your breath …
A small painting carrying a piece of your day
Not bought, but felt, and gently given …

    Wouldn’t it be nice…
To gift a folded note, written slowly
    With words that sat beside
    Your heart for a while
    Ink becoming warmth in
    Someone else’s hands
    A letter that lingers longer
    Than any object …

    Wouldn’t it be nice…
    To bring a pressed flower
    From a walk you loved
    Held between pages like a
    Secret of the earth
    A moment of stillness
    Wrapped in paper
A memory, passed from you to them …

    Wouldn’t it be nice…
To offer a jar filled with tiny intentions
Little lines of hope, of courage, of light
So on heavy days, they can open one
And find you there, in a sentence …

    Wouldn’t it be nice…
If our gifts carried pieces of our presence
    Instead f things that fade
    Without a story
A drawing, a word, a fragment of soul
    Simple, and somehow, enough …

  41. Be where you are.

There is something here for you.

We often move through moments quickly, thinking about what’s next, what’s ahead, what’s missing.

But sometimes what we need isn’t somewhere else.

It’s right here. It's right in front of you.

    Waiting to be noticed.

  43. Micro‑Adjustments The Art of Responding Without Overreacting

Micro adjustments are small, intentional shifts that help you respond without slipping into overreaction. By noticing quiet signals early and choosing proportionate actions, you preserve energy, build steadiness, and create meaningful change through tiny, sustainable moves. Small hinges really do swing big doors.
