Intel became the first company to ship High-NA EUV chips in volume — a real milestone using the most advanced lithography tools ever built.
But this kind of news gets read backwards. It won't make laptops cheaper (the economics run the other way), and the gear it produces won't reach the secondary market until the 2030s.

Intel just became the first company to ship High-NA EUV chips in volume — on ASML machines that cost roughly $386 million each, the most expensive production tools ever built. Some Panther Lake (Core Ultra Series 3) laptop chips now carry layers printed on them.
A real milestone — and a widely misread one. Three things stand out:The wording. Intel used High-NA on select, "dual-qualified" layers, keeping a fallback to standard tools. This is real product serving as a low-risk proving ground for its next node, 14A.
It won't make laptops cheaper. A High-NA tool costs about twice a standard scanner and runs fewer wafers per hour; it only pays off replacing three-plus passes on the most complex layers.
The timing. That next node reaches volume around 2029 — so for the used-hardware market, this is a 2030s story.TSMC is betting the other way, saying it doesn't need High-NA through its A14 node. Both can be right. Fab milestones and hardware markets run on different clocks — and that gap is the story.

Apple i Intel: powrót do przeszłości?
M7). Intel miałby produkować procesory do nie-Pro iPhone’ów oraz tańszych iPadów i Maków. Topowe układy (Pro/Max/Ultra) prawdopodobnie nadal pozostaną w rękach TSMC.
Dlaczego Apple to robi?
Decyzja o powrocie do rozmów z Intelem to klasyczny ruch Tima Cooka. W obecnej sytuacji geopolitycznej to ogromne ryzyko. Ponadto zyskanie drugiego wykonawcy pozwala Apple negocjować lepsze ceny z pierwszym (TSMC).

Lilbits: Intel Foundry’s new roadmap, Google Pixel Fold 2, and the OnePlus Watch 2
Intel had a rough few years a while back, when the company struggled to meet its original goals for moving from 14nm to 10nm and wound up shipping multiple generations of processors manufactured on a 14nm node while competitors were moving to smaller and more efficient processes.
But Intel says its Foundry business is back on track, with chips […]https://liliputing.com/?p=166787
