Funny: #InstagramThreads claims it blocks social.librem.one, kirishima.cloud, retro.social and others on account of "privacy policy" (whose?).
Probably just because no privacy policy can be found.
The retro.social "privacy policy" (ToS really) currently looks like this. It's funny to imagine which of these sentences helps in getting blocked by #Facebook Inc., though probably the block preceded them.
(I beg you not to brandish the CFAA as if it were a good thing.)

One happy user in Japan got a lot of interactions thanks to a boost from the fedibird.com admin. (No mention of considering moving there.)
Several people confused by nameless comments. (No moral rights for the authors of the comments, it seems? Have fun, #copyright lawyers.)

@eloquence it's worth noting that if you only limit an instance, then they can still see all of your posts when someone else boosts or interacts with them. That might be fine in most cases, but Threads openly states that they consider remote posts to fall under the jurisdiction of their own privacy policy. Your user's posts and profiles could end up sold to advertisers, used to train AI, in the hands of law enforcement, or just browsed for fun by Meta's staff. It's just too risky to leave that door open.

@evan Have they considered doing it in smaller stages with subsets of users, for example only users in a certain language or geography? That would also allow to pay closer attention to the most affected federated instances, instead of having to observe effects scattered everywhere all at once.

I noticed a few days ago that #InstagramThreads traffic has pretty much peaked on 2023-07-08 according to #Tranco.
https://tranco-list.euThis figure is probably still dominated by DNS requests according to Cisco, so I wouldn't rely on it yet. (I'm not even sure what domain names the mobile app is contacting.)

@TechInterceptor That's no good. It's double the number of #mastodon users, not to mention that this was within the 24 hours since the launch of #Threads. I wouldn't normally care, but knowing it's owned by a company that does not care about their user's privacy, this is concerning. Well the dip into #Thread lasted about half and hour and I then deleted the app.
It looks like to fully delete your profile you need to delete your Instagram account as well. That will be coming along shortly I guess. It’s not been used in years….. -
