I have a photo of it that I can't share, but it's front door was elevated from street level with symmetrical staircases (of around seven steps) left and right to access it.
Its landlady was once Agnes E. Brocklebank, and at some point it appears to have been tied to Bass, but my usual searches have yielded no results.

- Why are there so many darn gadgets with glow-in-the-dark digital lighting that cast unwanted light across the room like the Vegas Strip at night?
- Must 90% of all continental breakfasts be composed of solely carbs and sugar?
- Please let the customer control the heating and air conditioning, instead of being subjected to preset temps in the room that arc back and forth between North Pole and Death Valley.
- Why does a pet cost nearly as much per night as a person? And, what the hell is it with $75 for the first three nights, even if you only stay for one, at certain hotel brands. If you don’t want pets, just say so.
- Funny how in the archaic days of pre-internet you could cancel reservations over the phone by 6:00 pm on the day of arrival and not be charged. But now, in the high speed digital age, many places require 48 hours notice or more! So, it now takes two days for a cancellation to reach its destination where before it took mere seconds by phone? Can you say “rip-off?”
- Why can’t night shade curtains be made that actually extend past the middle of the window so that damn beacon in the parking lot doesn’t shine through right where your face is on the pillow?
- My kingdom for a mini-fridge that doesn’t turn everything into a glacier overnight!
- Exactly how many documents does one have to sign to check in to a hotel for that breathtaking cubicle overlooking the truck stop?
- Why are breakfast areas always jammed packed with travel soccer teams or families heading to Disney World right when we come down to eat?
- Ever notice how brand new hotels, especially along highways, are awesome at first, but each subsequent visit they seem to be gradually losing their luster to the point that within a few years they seem to be falling apart? Are we that disposable of a society?
- Does anyone offer decaffeinated coffee anymore?
- Why do hotel showers always have a sweet spot on the handle that instantly switches between hell-fire and deep freeze?

An iconic Route 66 roadside respite
We had the opportunity to stay at one of America’s most iconic roadside motels — the Wigwam Motel Village located along Old Route 66 in Holbrook, Arizona.
Front officeWhile not necessarily a politically correct name/theme in the present day (they are technically tepees for example), this quaint motel exudes tons of Mid-Century modern cuteness and charm with a hefty touch of Southwestern flare. Adding even more pizazz is the collection of antique automobiles and small trucks parked throughout the site.
A small museum of the motel’s storied history and of the surrounding region is located in the back portion of the front office.
If you are ever passing through Holbrook from https://www.nps.gov/pefo/index.htm or by the town on Interstate 40, consider taking a few minutes to see and admire this historic roadside attraction that’s been successfully operating for three-quarters of a century.

Classic motels of the American West and Midwest – EXPANDED
The following list identifies motels that the blog author has enjoyed staying in over the years and found to be wonderful representations of classic motor travel lodging. Each has its own unique persona that is a very welcome respite from chains and name brands.

During my research, I wondered what persuaded my 4 x great grandfather Richard Morgan to travel twenty miles west from Llantrisant to settle in Pyle. Then, I hit upon a theory. As an ostler, he moved there to work at Pyle Coaching Inn, the main inn on the main highway. Then, while researching the births of Richard’s children, I discovered that he was listed as a horse keeper at Pyle Coaching Inn. It’s lovely when your theories are confirmed by the facts.
