These are the races I'm watching today. What happens in these Republican Senate primaries will determine whether Trump can reach into state elections and drive the #Indiana supermajority rightward.
This will at least set the agenda in Indiana for the next two years, minimum. Probably much longer.
If these incumbents perform well ... it's another black eye for him to match the one we gave him last December. -
Looks like Choe Cole's little visit at IU Indy was yet another nothingburger from the national orgs bankrolling her and their local zombies like Beckwith.
Lots of sturm and drang. A last minute panic rush to recruit audience. Not many actual human beings in attendance. No meaningful media coverage.

The word is already going out - so I'm finally able to say YES! I'm joining the team at Damien Center as their new Director of Advocacy. It's an honor to have earned the trust of such a storied institution.
Can't wait to dig into their impressive advocacy and policy portfolio! I'll be helping their team secure care, resources, and dignity for the vulnerable Hoosiers they serve.
I'm going to do that by doing what I do best: Making friends everywhere!

It's sine die in #Indiana and I can officially report that NO ANTI-LGBTQ LANGUAGE SURVIVED THIS SESSION.
This is the first time that's happened since 2020 - the start of the anti-#trans wave that has swept the country.
This is a very big deal, and today I'm pleased and proud to call myself a #Hoosier.

Lawmakers eye road spending review as universally hated Mid-States Corridor nears construction

What IS this? The legislature doing sensible things is disrupting my whole worldview.

In #Indiana, I generally think of the anti-trans wave as starting in 2020, the most recent year we were able to stop all anti-LGBTQ legislation.
I just watched a (formerly?) powerful state senator fail to get a MAGA wet-dream of a bill out of committee, and then repeatedly fail to get amendments with similar language attached to three other Republican bills.
It's hard not to feel like the moral panic train is starting to run out of gas.

You would think these MAGA tryhards in the state senate would be ashamed of constantly looking so pathetic and thirsty in front of their colleagues but I guess a lack of self-respect is baked into the type.

Nowhere is the hubris of the #Indiana supermajority more evident than in watching them repeatedly vote down reasonable amendments to their electric utility affordability bill that would save Hoosiers real money on their bills while their own voters are *begging* them for meaningful actions.
All while offering a pat (false) excuse that "this has a fiscal and we've passed the recommit deadline."

Last month, #Hoosier lawmakers were victims of an awful campaign of political harassment. I hope those who experienced living under such a threat will oppose #SB182, which would expose #trans people to similar threats.
Judges in #Indiana agree that we are at risk of harassment, and regularly order gender marker changes to be confidential.
We can save our ability to get the safety and privacy of an updated birth certificate.

Bills are dropping for the remainder of #Indiana's legislative session. I'm tracking several that would be terrible for my current issues: #LGBTQ rights and #Democracy.
Because most will die, I generally wait until I see what gets a hearing before I raise the alarm unless I have some other indication.
Particularly when it comes to legislation that impacts LGBTQ Hoosiers ... early attention can *cause* bad legislation to gain steam when it might've died in obscurity.

If you consider current events in a wide view, Senator Bray's legacy in #Indiana *might* be that he was able to shield himself and his allies in the caucus from the collapse of the national GOP under the weight of Trump.

"Hoosiers don't love Trump" isn't the correct takeaway from last night, as much as I want that to be true.
"The Indiana Senate is largely composed of conservative institutionalists" is a much more accurate read.
The ideological spread of our no's was diverse. They voted to protect an institution under threat.
That's a good thing! And there are good takeaways for Dems too in all this. But Indiana has not suddenly become a more purple state overnight, I'm afraid.
