  1. Another page straight out of Putin’s playbook: Try to create a separatist movement where one doesn’t exist.

Trump reveals his Putinism by having his people meddle with Greenland and conduct influence operations there. Three of them went around trying to recruit locals.

Don’t let the guy’s clownish appearance fool you: He’s out for an imperial land grab.

  2. These aren't your typical "real" protestors. They aren't well-meaning #students out protesting fossil fuel use, or Israel, or student debt, or creeping fascism. They aren't the tree-hugging crowd protesting environmental #issues.

They don't seem to actually believe any of the stuff they're pushing. Like I said, they didn't even make their own signs. They're pretty obviously being paid to be there, and they do exactly the minimum they're told to do, and no more.

So, the only real effect this has is that it corrodes our functioning society. Who would pay for fake protests to do that?

I'm hoping it's #foreign. Russia and China do these sorts of things, trying anything they can to hurt their enemies and fracture their #unity. If Canadians, for example, stop trusting media reports about the war in Ukraine, or about China's brutal suppression of #Tibet and persecution of #Uyghurs, we might stop shipping arms to #Ukraine, or criticizing China at the UN. Both of those countries have the motivation, the resources, and the experience to do this here in Canada.

So, fellow #Canucks - have you noticed any of these so-far-out-there-they-can't-be-real protests in your city? What are the slogans on their signs?

  3. OpenAI Uncovers Evidence of an A.I. Powered Chinese Surveillance Tool

OpenAI recently banned several ChatGPT accounts whose operators used the company’s models to build a social media listening tool in an operation dubbed “Peer Review”. OpenAI was able to detect, analyze and disrupt what was an apparent surveillance operation by Chinese actors used to feed real-time reports about protests in the west to the Chinese security services.

The Qianyue tool was designed to monitor platforms like X, Facebook, YouTube, and Telegram to identify social media conversations about calls for demonstrations about human rights in China. These disruption efforts are part of OpenAI’s on-going efforts to prevent use of its AI tools in support of malicious cyber activities.

  4. "'Today marks two weeks since I submitted the invoice for August. Any idea for the delay? We are signing the large contracts and need to be certain we will get the funding to pay these people.' [Russian operative alias] did not immediately respond. While awaiting a reply from [Russian operative alias], [willing dupe/asset in place] searched for the then-current time in Moscow."

Yeah, they knew the Russians were paying them.
