  1. Ars Technica: Google’s SynthID AI watermarking tech is being adopted by OpenAI, Nvidia, and more. “How can we know what’s real in the age of AI? Google’s answer is SynthID, which it first demonstrated three years ago. The company says SynthID has since been used to label 100 billion images and videos, plus 60,000 years’ worth of audio. Those numbers are only going up now that SynthID is […]

  4. Aras has a good track record speeding up the OBJ I/O, so I'm glad to see he's sticking his nose in the USD I/O as well :)

Random thought this morning: I should try importing Disney Moana Motunui island USD scene into Blender (disneyanimation.com/resources/).

    Four hours later: ohhh.

Might do some optimization work ahead maybe?

  5. Here're some #professional #industrystandards #business tips on setting up properly automated invoicing and all the whatever tax dum-dums you need to sell them online goods:
1.: Find some bricks, iron pipes and similar apparatuses. We will talk about this later but start here first.
2.: Gah git sum beeer. Lots of 'em!
3.: Put on the fine records of the highly acclaimed, multi Jesus'scar'cademy award winner composer, The Revolting Cocks.
    4.: mashed my potatoes
5.: What were we talking about?

  6. Alembic time! If you use Alembic in your workflow, please visit code.blender.org/2020/06/chang and discuss the planned changes. I think you'll like them, but I could also benefit from your experience.

  7. Phew, the new #Alembic exporter is done! It's now using the same code base as the #UniversalSceneDescription exporter, paving the way for the future. And fixing a bug reported by @3DBystedt

Now it's waiting for review at developer.blender.org/D7664

  8. Last week I finished some final tweaks to Blender's @[email protected] Universal Scene Description exporter, and I took it out of the "experimental" features. It's now always enabled in our daily builds!

  9. #Blender's #USD Exporter landed in master! It's still marked as experimental, because some things are bound to change. I hope to have that lifted before the feature freeze of 2.82 :)

  10. Work on the Universal Scene Description (#USD) exporter has continued. I'm cleaning up code and adding some automated tests. I'm aiming to get the patch into review some time this or next week.

  11. Hey all! I want to change how #Blender imports/exports mesh normals from/to #Alembic files.

Please have a look at developer.blender.org/T71246. Either give it a ♥ token if you like it, or pitch in with a comment if you see problems with it.

  12. Some more #Alembic #b3d issues have been squashed. Interpolated child hairs on top of an animated Alembic mesh have never been more stable (T56408 & T63534).

  13. To all software developers using #Alembic: please do not assume the file is 24 FPS. Alembic has a very clear API to access timing information. Please use that, or we get bug reports like developer.blender.org/T55288

  14. An update on my work with Pixar's Universal Scene Description (#USD) in #Blender : code.blender.org/2019/07/first
    (blog post updated today)

TL;DR: mesh normals, compatible naming of UV Maps/texture coordinates, fluid sims, and fluid vertex velocity.

  15. More work on Universal Scene Description (#USD) in #Blender: we now export mesh normals and allow standard naming of UV Maps (that is "st", not sure why UV maps are using the first two letters of my last name). Thanks @[email protected] for the pointers.

  16. My first steps with #USD, Pixar's Universal Scene Description, in #Blender, turned into a blog post: code.blender.org/2019/07/first

In short: it's cool stuff. Go read.

  17. Further and further we go into the land of Universal Scene Description (#USD). I can now export linked-in collections and posed characters.

  18. Very much work in progress, but it's my first mesh exported from #Blender to #USD (Universal Scene Description) that's actually working!
