Just got in from clearing the driveway, and the top parking spaces, and the street in front of the mailbox, from yesterday's storm. Again. Not with a shovel, I hasten to clarify; up here it's a job for a track-drive snowblower.
Weary now. But it's a good weary. An accomplished weary.
"But wait, you said you used a snowblower!"
Yes. We like to talk about power equipment and power tools as "#labor saving devices", as though they require no effort to use. It's not true. They are force multipliers. Tools that enable one person to accomplish more in the same period. To be more productive. That doesn't mean it's not still hard work. Not still labor. Not still tiring. Indeed, power equipment greatly magnifies the potential consequences to the laborer of even a minor slip or fumble. Accounts from 18th-19th century textile mills are full of tales of children losing limbs because they stumbled, or were accidentally pushed, into an unguarded drive belt. (Often while working more than twelve hours a day.)
"Labor saving" is a euphemism invented by #industrialists to rationalize not paying the laborers who still do the actual work fairly for their increased #productivity, even at the cost of increased risk, thus keeping more of the money for themselves.
This is not a post about clearing snow. But you already figured that out. Right? -
#Fascism!: The US Army Publishes a Pamphlet in 1945 Explaining How to Spot Fascism at Home and Abroad
June 1st, 2023
"#Fascists come to power, the text explains, in times of #hardship, during which they promise 'everything to everyone': land to the #farmers, #jobs to the workers, customers and #profits to the small businessmen, elimination of small businessmen to the #industrialists, and so on. When this regime 'under which everything not prohibited is compulsory' inevitably fails to deliver a perfect society, things turn violent, both in the country’s internal struggles and in its conflicts with other powers. To many Americans at the time of World War II, this might seem like a wholly foreign disorder, liable to afflict only such distant lands as Italy, Japan, and Germany. But a notional American fascism would look and feel familiar, working 'under the guise of ‘super-patriotism’ and ‘super-Americanism.’ Fascist leaders are neither stupid nor naïve. They know that they must hand out a line that ‘sells.’ "

As #RachelMaddow brought up Monday night, there is long line of wealthy #Industrialists and foreign #dictators who would *happily* shell out a half-bil (pocket change) to own a #Potus deep in debt to them. -
@strypey
Yes, the #SilentWar on progressives is intense still to this day, the West have refined #gaslighting and vilifying, mostly labeling a public figure who opposes the #corporatists as a #rapist and/or #misogynist. They did that even against #KevinRudd in #Australia.In the 1930s they were '#industrialists', but in today's era of #hyperFinancialisation we prefer the term '#corporatist", especially over positive-sounding terms like '#neoliberal'.
-
It also involved #CentralBankers, financiers in #UK and #USA including the #BankOfEngland, and #industrialists that wanted to exploit #Europe's resources, including #oilMerchants like the #BushCrimeFamily.
Today many make a mistake of calling these industrialists '#capitalists'. They are not 'capitalist'. When corporatists merge with govt, that's '#fascism'.

No one person should have this much power over nations. Petty #dictators and #industrialists are cut from the same autocratic cloth. And if there ever were an argument for #nationalization, working with a declared enemy would be it. #Musk #Starlink https://www.nytimes.com/2023/09/08/world/europe/elon-musk-starlink-ukraine.html

Couple of thoughts on the repercussions of business collaboration with hostile authoritarian regimes:
🔹1. Such businesses will always be attractive to indifferent sociopaths, but the more conscientious personality types are likely to be drawn to workplaces with more humane atmosphere. These trends tend to be self-reinforcing.
Are plain greed and indifference winning values in the coming decades, with the world facing multiple challenges simultaneously?
🔹2. The Chinese dictatorship is studying *reactions* to #russia's military-expansionism like a possessed hawk. #CCP's entire 'success' is built on the bet (an 'article of faith' if they ever had one) that capitalists have zero ethics.
Think all the CCP dictatorship has done, starting immediately after seizing power: genocidal invasion of #Tibet, war against #UnitedNations' forces defending #SouthKorea, militarized lebensraum settler colonialism in Tibet, #EastTurkistan ('xinjiang' in pekingese) and occupied (South) #Mongolia, multiple expansionist border wars, wholesale grab of sea resouces hugging distant countries coastlines, the crushing of #Hongkongers' treaty-enshrined autonomy 'guaranteeing' democratic and civil rights, unprecedentedly massive (sorry USSR) global campaign to extinguish or at least disrupt democracy *everywhere*... And that's not even mentioning the deaths and suffering or the systematically erased languages and cultures of an entire empire's worth of #Chinese peoples themselves.
Has all this deterred foreign #industrialists, #bankers and trinket traders from doing business with the Chinese #dictatorship? 👀
The CCP has collaborating foreign industrialists by the 'family jewels' since the latter 'smartly' shipped all their valuable tools of manufacturing to the 'people's republic'. (NB: in that '#socialist' workers' paradise anyone engaging in trade union activities is lucky to survive the punishment to that crime)
🔹3. If #ethics, #democracy and #humanrights play any part in your company's value set, the time to disentangle from hostile, #authoritarian regimes was yesterday. Staying engaged will only further embolden and *empower* the despots.
If #xijinping calculates that he can complete genocidal military invasion of #Taiwan with manageable loss of foreign collaboration... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Note that CCP explicitly *permits* domestic comments calling for Taiwan to be taken over 'empty'.
Finally to point out the obvious, the struggle of democracies vs emboldened #authoritarianism is all interconnected. You can't abhor one despot's criminality but collaborate with the rest of his associates. Instead we should be circling wagons and supporting democratic friends and trends everyone while disempowering the despots. After all the lost decades, we now have the signs of awakening. As individuals we can support the reanimation of democracy and human rights by voting, staying informed and supporting like-minded businesses and industries.

@realcaseyrollins
Unfortunately, #Nazism is a distressing thing for many to see, whether managed skillfully or not.Those people who know they lost family due to the #forcedLabor camps/mines, that served the #nazi regime and #industrialists in the last century are going to be distressed no matter what.
Back then many were apathetic to nazism, and the most wealthy even supported it.
Have you seen Rich Mans Trick (2014) yet?

What the wealthy #industrialists want is not so much a race wiped out, but they will Stoke that division if it allows them cover while they make money in #slaveLabour and #concentrationCamps, which the #BushCrimeFamily were able to do for example. Their fortunes would go on to support a political dynasty of two presidents.

@Br0m3x
Its unfortunate to see a sustained increase #fossilFuel usage, which is of course inevitable alongside the human suffering that goes with #militarism.We're agast at the #corporateMedia continuing to give credence to one corrupted/malignant side. Its obvious these #industrialists are enjoying their longterm investments in #humanSuffering.
We hope maligned actors see their errors and conflict ends so we can focus on real problems.

How many #CEOs, #bankers and #industrialists does it take to make it seem there's "popular" support for a racist, genocidal, #naziRegime against #Russia?

Yes, we heard about the US setting aside funds from as far back as 2015, for the nazis groups.For a complete history lesson on wealthy #industrialists being actual #fascists, complete with names of banks which may exist to this day.

US and #UK #industrialists, in the form of the #weaponsIndustry and their enabler #politicians, who are desperate to #distract from their own shortcomings at home, appear to be repeating #history in eastern Europe.
This documentary should be viewed at your earliest convenience:
https://invidious.snopyta.org/watch?v=8ObvK4NR_LIIts not short, nor easy viewing. But it is correct in all but one minor future prediction.
Pls watch — together we stop the cycle.

@redragdolly
Its weird though with the US stoking a #proxyWar.Just trying to imagine how the #USA would react if #Russia were in Mexico, offering "SpecialForces" and weaponry to aid Mexico towards brinkmanship with the US.
What would US do?
(History rhyming with another time #industrialists pooled resources to help arm a European nation?)

@SunSaint
To be honest a lot of #conspiracyTheories turn out to be #conspiracyFact.Most of the wars we've been in are based on lies. With the same people and wealthy #industrialists helping both sides.
There's literally a heap of examples throughout history where the people are lied to by the wealthy.
Most recently the attack on #BernieSanders, then and now, ripped from the race twice. By a corrupted #DNC using every trick they know they can. Its in their right to rig #primaries.
