Went to see #oceans with #DavidAttenborough at "the pictures" tonight.
Equal parts utterly depressing and hopeful (perhaps a smidgen more of the latter). The human capacity for destruction and inspiration knows no limits. Even having read several books recently on the extent of industrial fishing and particularly the trawler destruction, seeing it was a different matter entirely.
I implore you, go see it. And contact your political representative about the upcoming #oceanconference2025 in Paris in June.

Every time I go to the Pacific Ocean beaches, I pick up as much trash as I can. It feels completely futile and non-rational, and I won't stop. Picking up plastic is a ritual. It is an act of devotion, a prayer, a cry into the darkness. It is a responsibility, a sacrifice. It is a promise. A payment on a debt owed.

The official position of the UK government is that cleaning of the #ocean from #industrialfishing debris (#EoLFG) should be unsupported and conducted by #volunteers. We have voiced strong opposition to that and this cost us to be alienated in the conservation "community". Plastic will not disappear by magic and there is already far too much, damaging everything. Luckily some academics are not following the trend.
