At least 45 #whales were #entangled by fishing ropes & line on the east coast of #Australia in 2024, & experts are calling for better management of #industrialfishing gear to prevent marine mammals suffering.

Dr Olaf Meynecke, a marine scientist at Griffith University, said he believes the true figure is about 100. “They’re really just the tip of the iceberg,” he said.
