A future restoration project maybe, or a repository of spare parts? Captured this quiet corner of the Tanfield Heritage Railway near Stanley in NE England.
The railway is part of what was once a former horse-drawn colliery wooden waggon way, later rope and horse, lastly rope and loco railway.
Today, visitors can ride along the route on preserved industrial steam locomotives.#england #gateshead #durham #historic #railway #industrialheritage #photography

The Tamar Trails on the #Devon side of the Tamar.
It’s the site of Devon Great Consols, once the world's largest copper mine. Once the copper price crashed, it switched to producing arsenic. In the 1880s it was said there was enough arsenic stored on site to poison everyone on the planet.
William Morris was a shareholder at DGC, and his uncle one of its managers. Arsenic from here was used in his wallpapers. It was the largest employer of people from our village.

Just saw this brilliant doco on the rise and fall of Kodak Australia.
From a bloke hand-coating glass plates in a Melbourne cellar in 1884, to the massive Coburg factory pumping out film for the whole Asia-Pacific, employing thousands and capturing Aussie life for 120 years.
Then digital killed it overnight. Last roll came off the line in 2004 with barely a word.
The silent factories of our industrial past... gone, but not forgotten.
Worth a watch if you’re from Melbourne or just love our manufacturing history. -

🔥Our history, going up in flames! Fires are destroying so many of our historical Victorian mills. Big Mill in Leek and Middleton Mill in Rochdale are this weekend's casualties.
Dalton Mills in #Keighley is another sad example. I photographed this wonderful historical space a few years ago. After a "mysterious" fires, the mill has collapsed, leaving only the facade.

A long-abandoned locker room, once used by English coal miners. This place was once alive with the bustle and banter at shift changes, workers rushing out at clocking-off time. Now it sits silent and decaying, since the colliery closed in the 1970s.

The Domino Sugar sign, originally from the 1920s, was rebuilt as a replica for Brooklyn's waterfront. Radio City Music Hall's 1932 neon is synonymous with the city itself. The Pepsi-Cola sign, rescued from a shuttered bottling plant, now stands in Gantry Plaza as a designated NYC landmark. Meanwhile, the beloved Kentile Floors sign was saved and will be reinstalled in Gowanus, preserving Brooklyn's industrial heritage.

Battersea Power Station now
It was with a little trepidation that I visited Battersea Power Station the other day. I knew it had been converted into a shopping centre, and had all sort of visions of the horrors that awaited me. I shouldn’t have worried, because I think they did a good job. The industrial, art deco, nature of the building has been preserved, with quite a lot of stuff left in place.
I didn’t get any photos of the old control room, which has been converted into a cocktail bar, but with all the controls, gauges etc left. I couldn’t afford a drink there.
