@KC1PYT Here's the NEC output for a shortish wire #antenna at #HF. Suppose you want to load this for the 20 m band. The real impedance at 14 MHz is 36.6Ω (nothing a lone #inductor can do about that) and the reactance is -207.5iΩ, so we want a series reactance of 207.5iΩ to cancel it, which at 14 MHz is 2.35 µH (that's just X=2πfL). So you could make a suitable loading coil for 14 MHz with 5 turns of a 5 cm radius, 10 cm long coil (L=µ0N^2A/l, or about 2.4 µH for N=5, A=π0.05^2 and l=0.1).

I cracked a #transformer and the shards of the core did not stick to metal. What!? I thought it was ferrite, useful for its magnetic properties. Can anyone confirm that the cores inside inductors are not actually #magnets ?

The primary of this mains #transformer that was in a power brick from the 1990s seems to be broken internally.
What else can I use it for? Should I attempt to recycle the magnet wire? Try to rewind the laminated core?
The other two transformers seem fine. They both came from digital clocks.
