  1. Having Indonesian lunch in downtown Hsinchu, TW. My knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia is even smaller than my vocabulary in Chinese, but I do know that Ayam is chicken, 😁. That said, the menu is translated, so my knowledge of <10 words makes no difference. #Taiwan #IndonesianFood

  21. To my SEA network: can anyone identify this food?

"An Indonesian or Malaysian satay with dry marinade (a rub?) containing cumin and no kecap. Not served with peanut sauce. Looking for recipe."

(as a vegetarian, I am not in a great position to help out here)

  22. A couple of weeks ago I made J. Kenji Lopez-Alt’s Easy Stir-Fried Noodles with Mushrooms, Carrots, Basil, and Sweet Soy Sauce from _The Wok_ cookbook.

I thought these noodles were good and had a good amount of vegetables in them. 4 stars ★★★★☆

  23. If you’re ever asked if you’d like to try the “sampler platter” in an Indonesian restaurant, just go for it. Trust me, it’s an experience. (And it’s really only about two spoonfuls in each of those dishes, but man is it a feast!) #indonesianfood

  24. CW: discussion of food (no pics)

Had a dream about being back in Singapore last night, then woke up to messages from my friends back in SG, where they shared the snacks they had: bika ambon, lapis legit and emping sambal.

    Homesickness hitting hard this weekend!

Tbf: I had lapis legit last week, and I still have unfried emping melinjo at home, so maybe one of these days I should just look up a recipe for emping balado and learn how to make it.

  27. Ordered ayam gepuk with extra spicy sambal today and I felt like Conan O’Brien shouting “this is life!” in Hot Ones.

(Ok, it’s *just* spicy enough to make me sweat but not so spicy that I had to grab for the nearest drink)
