#Fossil evidence, including a #skull accidentally broken in the lab in 2007, showed whale-like inner-ear #bones that placed it as the closest non-whale relative of all modern #whales. It gave rise to #Pakicetus and a chain of increasingly aquatic ancestors leading to today’s toothed and #baleen whales.
