  1. Our latest fortnight-notes went out earlier in the week: the end of the latest batch of @museuminabox, some finished packaging for My Bike's Got LED and more

  2. New delivery! That should keep the Museum in a Box production line going for a few batches...

  3. Ordering another thousand speakers for @museuminabox. And a few additional speaker samples for R&D on a couple of project ideas.

  4. Is #MaintenanceMonday a thing? Just been fixing up the #IndieMfg map as I'm sharing the research into local supply chains we did a while back at @MCQN_Ltd and for some reason umap had forgotten the URLs for dynamically loading the OpenStreetMap data.

  5. Super interesting insight into how you scale up manufacturing, at the this-is-how-you-describe-steps-to-your-manufacturing-partner level, in the first talk at #OSHcamp

  6. Thinking about it, the bowling was an accidental #LocalManufacturing story.

Vinny, one of our group, works at Drakes here in Liverpool - one of three manufacturers in the world of those bowling balls; and the resin used to make them is only made in *one* place in the world, which is in St. Helens.

Both those locations plus the place we were playing lie within an 8 mile radius.

  7. Found some time to dig into why my embedded umap wasn't working on the Indie Manufacturing website.

Turns out it was a certificate issue. Now fixed. Yay!

  8. Lighting up the FACT Metroscopes; @jackie_pease's LED comet; battery charging debugging and a smidge of NFC - @huffeec writing the three-#weeknotes this week.

  9. It would be good to capture my current thinking about all of this.

Re-reading mcqn.net/mcfilter/archives/thi I think that captures my critique of Arts and Crafts.

And indie.mcqn.com/blog/2016/11/27 grasps at the trade-offs between individual craft and mass manufacture.

But there's something of a new Mittelstand in scale, combined with co-operative and collective ownership that's missing from them both.

  10. Exciting times in the @MCQN_Ltd corner of @DoESLiverpool today.

All the bits for us to build the test V2 boards of My Bike's Got LED are here

  11. New boards go to production, and Chris shares some @kicad tips. This week's #weeknotes: Week 904 - Always look on the bright side of life…

  12. Hello 👋

An #introduction. We are #MCQN_Ltd, an #IndieMfg company in #Liverpool.

We make (and sell) gentle, Internet-connected objects, and help others build their #embedded and #IoT projects. So expect anything from Internet-connected bubble machines to sensors on wave-energy #prototypes.

    We're strong believers in #OpenSource; both #firmware and #electronics/#PCB.

    #OpenHardware #OSHW.

    And we work with many #microcontrollers including #ESP32 #ESP8266 #Arduino and #RaspberryPi.

  13. Got my @fosdem talk written and recorded. It's ended up part-manifesto-for-#OSHW, part-how-to-for-#IndieMfg. Join me on 7th Feb to watch it and join the discussion afterwards fosdem.org/2021/schedule/event #weeknotes

  14. Managed to get my @fosdem talk proposal in on time, hoping to share my journey in making open hardware as an indie manufacturer. Fingers crossed #weeknotes #ibal223 #IndieMfg

  15. @mdales Nice to see you back in the shop. And interested in your quest for sustainable wood options. Andy Goodwin did a bit of digging into sustainable plywood during the #IndieMfg project and it's a bit of a nightmare, but more of us worrying about it and sharing info is what's going to get us out the other side of that. And I /think/ it'll be easier with solid wood, as there are fewer steps between tree and you. Guess we'll find out 😄
