#Today I just heard back from bookshop .org's representative regarding listing our indie ebooks on their site. I am told a direct upload option will not be available until 2026, but, for those of us on D2D, bookshop will become available as a new distribution channel within the next couple of months. We should expect to hear from D2D at some point.

Update: My bookshop affiliate account has been verified, but I cannot find how to list my ebooks. They sent an email with a number of help docs but following the directions on how to add books to my shop list had the system tell me I cannot add ebooks. 🤔 I wound up submitting a ticket for help. Will let y'all know what happens next.

#Today just set up a bookshop.org affiliate account for my little direct buy store since they announced they now carry ebooks. They didn't let me post my site anywhere. I had to create a specific bookshop sales site. I guess I will need to link my ebooks to there? I am currently sitting in account verification so will let you know if this works.

Hey #WritingCommunity what are your thoughts on Draft2Digital? My ebooks have been direct with the 5 major vendors for 2 years, but I am considering delisting with Apple Books & going through D2D. They have introduced yet another hoop for selling in EU. I think this only effects direct sellers? Anyone have experience with switching over or selling on Apple through D2D? Or general thoughts on this service? Thanks!

I've avoided TikTok so far and completely left Xitter, but that doesn't go far enough. Meta is terrible, nearly as bad as these others, so I'd love to abandon Facebook, Instagram, and Threads as well. How do I do this as an indie author scrambling for readers?
This is not a rhetorical question; I really want to know. How do you balance "maintaining an online prescence" with not supporting fascism? Both of those seem like hard requirements for indie authors, and they are in clear conflict.

To any authors with an Amazon account:
They are requiring that some people (not all, I guess, but I was one of them) enter their birthdate into their account info if they want to get paid. They're not sending out an email for this, I read about it on a FB group & went in to check my account & sure enough. 🤬 You have to click on Account, then you might see a message that there is a problem with your bank info.

Okay, folks. Real talk. As an indie author, I'm really enjoying seeing my circle of writer friends gradually expand. I don't just mean my follower count; I mean people I actually know. These people are great, but... they're mostly white dudes even older than I am.
I made most of these contacts through Philip K. Dick fandom, so that explains the demographics. Any ideas on how I can connect with a wider variety of writers? Maybe I need to get obsessively into some other fandom. Adventure Time?

Starting the upload process for my latest book #today I want it available by early May (May 1st ideally) & Amazon took over 3 days to make my book live last time. It's up on my direct buy sites, though my official link tester (one or the other of my kids) still needs to tell me it works, then it's on to all the vendors. This is always my least favorite part, just dealing with these sites. 🙄 Wish me luck! 😀

Depressing, yet unsurprising blog post. I still find myself unwilling to invest less time, effort, & money into putting out the best books I can, whether anyone reads them or not. I suppose I'm privileged to some extent as I can afford professional editing & cover art, but I choose to put my (limited) funds there rather than into marketing. Maybe someday, when all the books are written, I'll invest more. But is it worth it?

Update for anyone interested:
The new ebook is still in review this morning after 72 hours so I contacted Amazon's customer service. I got an option to request a call & they called promptly 😳 The worker had no idea why it wasn't live yet & is going to escalate it. So, that's some progress. Meanwhile, the book's been up on the other vendors for days now.
Indie publishing is always an adventure.

Has anyone noted Amazon being slower to get ebooks out of the review stage? Maybe I've just been spoiled, but my previous books have gone live quickly--in less than 24 hours. My newest has been sitting "in review" since the 1st. It's still within their stated 72 hours, but I'm just curious as it's never taken so long. The book is live with all the other vendors, even Apple which is usually last. 🤔
