first sip is a bit spice like. a bit more bitter than i like. some mellow acidity. vanilla like note with more sips. not bad overall.

    brew smells kind of "metallic"

there is a mild bitterness with an acidity that tastes very mildly of apples. the bitterness lingers but it is not as intense/bad as the previous bcr coffees. could be ok with some tweaking maybe.

    hoysala estate naturals (""light roast"")

had lofty goals (in hindsight) of comparing washed/naturals of the same coffee but the washed one was bad so.

beans & brew smell sweet and a bit burnt.

less immediately bitter like the washed one but it washes over the tongue with sips. rest of the brew tastes empty. maybe a very slight acidity. needs tweaking.

    brew smells burnt, woody, ashy

the taste is a wave of bitter burnt taste with nothing else. i have never tasted this much on the spectrum of bitterness before. might be hallucinating an extremely faint hint of peanuts in the background

ground beans smell very fermenty/boozy. brew smells fruity; a bit burnt.

first sip: mildly sweet with fruity acidity. theres a significant bitter aftertaste that overwhelms everything else. bitterness mostly reduces with further sips. definitely have to go less agitation on this one.

a couple of new robusta launches by naivo:

    2. "Sweet Illusions – BEWILD Permaculture 180H Anoxic Naturals" (naivo.in/product/sweet-illusio)

smells exactly like dark chocolate with a hint of fruit.

tastes almost exactly like couverture canephora from caffinary. dark chocolate taste with mellow fruity acidity. the taste doesnt really change much with sips except maybe the fruity note gets a bit more prominent.

  25. this is only a preliminary note since its mixed with 7 grams of my previous coffee, but this robusta by el bueno ("cacao me crazy"): elbuenocoffee.com/product/caca might be a slightly cheaper alternative to the best robusta i had tasted before (caffinary.com/products/couvert)

this one has more bitterness compared to the yeast naturals. but it also has a syrupy mouthfeel and some floral stuff going on. there is a pleasant acidic general fruitiness to it that lingers. pretty good.

and another one. this time its "Couverture Canephora" from caffinary: caffinary.com/products/couvert

this is the best robusta so far. it tastes like a cup of hot cocoa with a bit of fruity acidity. no unpleasant bitterness at all. even the beans smell like chocolate, ground and unground. i can see why they call it couverture!

Been having Monsoon Malabar from my local coffee shop these days (pic not included, I've posted it sometime in the past) using my Hario Switch as a pourover. I barely get the time to make coffee these days though.
