Indiana Comic Convention 2026 Photos, Part 3 of 3: Con Life Before and After Nicolas Cage
Previously on Midlife Crisis Crossover: It’s that time again! This weekend my wife Anne and I attended the twelfth edition of the Indiana Comic Convention at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis -- a fun opportunity for fans to look at walls covered with old comics, build lightsabers, buy 3D-printed knickknacks, overstock on Funko Pops, respect the anime fandom whose population dwarfs us older generations, avoid AI “art”, and scratch their heads at the inexplicable comeback of the 19th-century rubber-duck fad. Rather than dump all our pics into a single omnibus entry, we’re mercifully splitting them into a trilogy of galleries... ...concluding with anything and everything involving neither celebrities nor cosplay. Meeting Academy Award Winner Nicolas Cage may have been the sensational headline news, but he's not all we saw during our two days onsite. […] -

Rare are the opportunities when a Midwest comic-con signs a guest who's such a significant household name that local news outlets treat it as a major headline event. Usually our cons are relegated to a Thursday morning sidebar to the effect of, "Looking for something to do this weekend? Lee Greenwood will be performing at the Fieldhouse, here's a list of fifteen different farmers' markets, our state parks are still pretty, and Hoosier Comic Expo is bringing in three Yellow Rangers, a canceled stand-up comic, and...uh, sorry, those are the only names we recognize and our Google's broken." Not so this time: ICC waited till a mere week before showtime to announce they'd scored Academy Award Winner Nicolas Cage's Very First Appearance at an American Convention. This became a BIG DEAL. For once our journalists had something to write about besides sports. […] -

Indiana Comic Convention 2026 Photos, Part 1 of 3: Very Tiny Cosplay Sampler!
It’s that time again! This weekend my wife Anne and I attended the twelfth edition of the Indiana Comic Convention at the Indiana Convention Center in scenic downtown Indianapolis, and by "scenic" I mean "overcrowded with more construction equipment than a Tonka Truck factory". ICC 2026 was a fun opportunity for fans to look at walls covered with old comics, build lightsabers, buy 3D-printed knickknacks, overstock on Funko Pops, respect the anime fandom whose population dwarfs us older generations, avoid AI "art", and scratch their heads at the inexplicable comeback of the 19th-century rubber-duck fad. The showrunners added still more square footage to their dominion, on track to match Gen Con's imperial sprawl if they can keep up the pace for another 20-30 years or so. Apart from a few bottlenecked aisles, geek life had ample elbow room to thrive and sometimes enjoy breathing space in these hallowed halls of pop-culture commerce. Rather than dump all our pics into a single omnibus entry, we're mercifully splitting them into a trilogy of galleries. Up first: mandatory cosplay pics! We regret ours is such a measly collection, but: (a) we spent a lot of time in lines; (b) we tend to gravitate toward characters we recognize, and our recognition rate drops as the youngsters insist on liking different shows and comics than we do; and (c) everyone walks so fast and we're old and tired and it's all hot and it hurts an' stuff. Even if we don't capture them all on our own devices, we really do appreciate the cosplayers who brighten everyone's experience. The jazz-hands photo ops and other sights will be shared in the other chapters. We regret we can only represent a fraction of a sliver of an iota of a fraction of the total costumed wonderment that was on display this weekend. We’re just an aging couple doing what we can for happy sharing fun. Enjoy! Corrections are humbly welcomed for any we didn't recognize or might’ve misidentified! […] -

Indiana Comic Con 2016 Photos #3 of 4: Saturday Cosplay
Previously on Midlife Crisis Crossover: Friday and Saturday, my wife and I attended the third annual Indiana Comic Con at the Indiana Convention Center in scenic downtown Indianapolis. In Part One you saw every viable costume photo we took on Friday, with the emphasis once again leaning toward Deadpool because that's what we're running into, other than hordes of intricate anime characters we oldsters don't recognize. Part Two was a Saturday selection featuring Bat-related characters and, one last time, all the Deadpools fit to print. In today’s gallery: cosplay, cosplay, cosplay! All the other costumes we saw on Saturday that looked great and didn't evade or outrun us. Obviously this is far from comprehensive and I'm still kicking myself with all my mental strength for missing one lady dressed as someone I recognized from the Authority. At one point I dwelt on this weird idea of renting booth space next year and offering to take free pics of any cosplayers who feel they weren't photographed often enough, just for free posting here as a fun public service -- no judging, no body-shaming, no rejecting just because Anne and I have no idea who they are. But I'm not sure how many cosplayers experience that kind of letdown at such shows anymore. Social media operating as it does today, every con probably now has ten "photographers" in attendance for every cosplayer. My idea was a fun pipe dream for the few minutes it lasted. Ah, well. Anyway: enjoy! […]https://midlifecrisiscrossover.com/2016/05/01/indiana-comic-con-2016-photos-3-of-4-saturday-cosplay/

Indiana Comic Con 2016 Photos #2: Batman v. Deadpool: Dawn of Cosplay
Previously on Midlife Crisis Crossover: Friday and Saturday, my wife and I attended the third annual Indiana Comic Con at the Indiana Convention Center in scenic downtown Indianapolis. In Part One you saw every viable costume photo we took on Friday. We caught so many cosplayers in action today that the Saturday results will be split into two (maybe three) entries. In tonight's gallery: another batch of Deadpool variants, which we suspect will be a thing for years to come, and heroes and villains from the Batman family, which kept catching our eye more than usual this time around. Enjoy! […] -
Indiana Comic Con 2015 Photos #1: Our Lucky Friday the 13th
Last year my wife and I attended the inaugural Indiana Comic Con in our hometown of Indianapolis, a decent-sized Midwest city whose Indiana Convention Center went from merely one geek gathering every year (Gen Con, always a fave) to no less than five such shindigs in 2014. ICC was first up to bat that year but had issues, which I covered at length here and here. We figured it would take a lot of nerve for Imaginarium, ICC's out-of-state showrunners, to return and try again. We considered shunning ICC forever until they added a pair of irresistible names to this year's guest list. Even then, our decision to forgive and relive wasn't made lightly.
