  2. @dcdeejay this $1B represents but a tiny fraction of what US +Billionaires and their corporations owe +interest to the #Treasury #IRS = American citizens and programs that support our collective entitlements into which we have all paid our share through #incometaxes #socialsecurity taxes which we cannot shirk. This is a long overdue collection stalled for decades by #GOP #congress

  3. A new analysis shows tech’s growing importance to California tax revenue. With the state facing a big budget deficit, the health of the tech industry matters more than ever to the state’s coffers. I explain in this story: calmatters.org/economy/2024/01

  5. What's with AirBnB and many accomodation providers not providing HST registration numbers? Aren't they required by law to include on receipts? Are they evading taxes? Not collecting? Issue arises with Ontario's staycation income tax credit

  6. #IncomeTaxes #Form1040 #Form540

Just finished preping my Fed & State taxes for filing today.

Not due for us here in CA who live in certain affected counties until 10/16 but I only owe a minmal amountto the Feds and nothing to the State and I don't trust that the Feds/State will recognize that I live in a county for which the filing deadline has been extended.

So, I'm going to file "on time" before the generally applicable due date on 4/18 anyway because I don't want to see a late filing notice in my PO Box from either the Feds and/or the State and then have to jump thru hoops to get them to reverse any fines and interest charges they've wrongfully imposed on me because they don't realize what county that I live in.

Better safe than sorry IMO. 🤷‍♂️

  7. More small print from the #budget:

After lobbying by some ministers #JeremyHunt dropped a proposal to require #SoveriegnWelathFunds (SWFs) to pay #CorporationTax

Once again, we can see who this budget was for; with #incometaxes thresholds not rising with #inflation, lifetime pension allowances raised & other measures, for the most part this was a budget for the rich whether living here, or as in the case of SWFs just investing here.

No, as Leona Helmsley said: tax is for the little people

I would like to make a counter proposal:

    Implement or expand: #WindfallProfitsTax, #WealthTax, #InheritanceTax

It is not the obligation of the rich to pay 4 s.o. else's #Social #Security.

However, the earth +its resources belong 2 all humanity. If 1 generation earned something, it cannot be fully passed on 2 the next 1, in particular 4 #billionaires.

Trusts + "charity foundations" are an issue 4 the same reason: wealth transfer.

But we must also talk about #IncomeTaxes: ...

  10. And Republicans want to cut funding, making life harder.

IRS watcher sees ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ on massive backlog, just in time for tax season 2023

The National Taxpayer Advocate was cautiously optimistic in her annual report to Congress, but serious problems still abound.
