Fall cankerworm (Alsophila pometaria). If you have a moment to enlarge the image, check out the reduced 3rd proleg on the left-hand side of the loop, toward the bottom. Most lineages of the Geometridae have lost this A5 proleg completely, so this is very useful for identification. Fast-moving, arboreal caterpillars tend to have reduced numbers of prolegs. I'd never seen an inchworm before, at least I don't recall seeing one this pretty.
I believe the second one is a caterpillar, or a larva of some sort. It surprised me when I was taking pictures of the pink fuzzball I posted earlier in this thread.

Was trimming a large maple tree in the yard a couple years ago. This little broken branch stub started to "inch" away. Likely a Large Maple Spanworm. It has some really great camouflage while sitting still🙂
