  1. RE: mastodon.online/@helenpugh/115

    Transcript:

With this second husband, she had three children, but before long he became abusive. So we can see that so far, Quispe has lived a rollercoaster life and she would never have thought that all this would happen when she was born as an Inca princes when the Inca Empire was still functioning. In terms of the abuse, the historian Stuart Stirling goes so far as to refer to Ampuero as "psychopathic".

  7. Civ 6

My friends and I are playing (by email) a game of reverse colonization. Huge Earth TSL, six humans all starting in the Americas.

I’m off to a decent start but need to get farms ASAP. 12 turns in.

  8. The Spanish overcame the #IncaEmpire in 1 day by capturing the emperor Atahualpa.

Fake news! It was a process that took decades of battles.

E.g. in April 1536, Manco Inca escaped from the Spanish, rescued his principal wife, Curi Ocllo, & fled #Cusco to plan a #rebellion.

Exactly 3 years later, in April 1539, Gonzalo Pizarro set out to capture the rebels.
Would Manco & Curi survive his pursuit?

  13. #TravelPhotography from #OnThisDay in 2019 when we set foot in #Peru for the first time. We had to go see something of the #Inca, of course, so headed to #TamboColorado, a 15th century administrative complex built during the reign of #Pachacuti who had an interesting rise to power, to say the least. It was painfully hot, very dry and exposed, but a fabulous place to visit and admire that trapezoidal #architecture favoured by the Inca.
