Flickr Blog: Keeping Flickr Safe: Our Inactive Account Policy. “At Flickr, we’re committed to maintaining a platform that’s secure, trustworthy, and built for photographers who are passionate about sharing their work. As part of that ongoing commitment, we’re introducing a policy to remove inactive accounts that have never been used.”

So, I guess, this is one of those times that a story about a big company deleting a huge number of inactive accounts may actually be true.
It looks like #Google is going to start deleting accounts that are deeply inactive. But it appears that you only have to use it once in a great while to keep it live.
This will undoubtedly break things at sites that depend on Google emails as credentials.

Heads-up, if you, like me, wanted to keep your inactive Twitter account around.
"Twitter's official policy now considers a user inactive if they fail to log in "at least every 30 days." An archived version of this policy shows that as recently as April 19, the policy had been to log in every six months to keep an account active. Twitter seems to have quietly updated the policy within the past few weeks."

Interesting discussion on birdsite re: #Musk suggesting interest in de-activating #inactiveaccounts. This could have repurcussions on a number of governmental accounts not to mention important accounts of cultural figures that have died. If Musk takes any actions the #LibraryofCongress (which used to archive tweets in the early years) - should be notified to archive those accounts. There should also be a way like FB for friends/family to have deceased ppl's accounts backed up.
