Scientists who have never been to #China have been surprised by the ‘sudden’ dominance of #Chinese universities in world rankings of #Science and #Engineering departments, as well as the tables of contents of journals with high #ImpactFactors.
In 1979, China instituted its #OneChildPolicy and subsequently invested heavily in #education.

@MonniauxD @deevybee maybe there's 4 levels: (1) fully using/demanding #impactfactors IFs, (2) token @DORAssessment signing, (3) not using IFs officially (4), fully changed the assessment culture/thinking in the institutional community. New journal #ImpactFactors are out. I know that it is highly disputed performance measure. It reflects rather whether authors produce papers that readers like and cite, than editorial foresight. That of NeoBiota increased to 5.1.
Still I am happy that our scientific community on #AlienSpecies (exotics, non-natives) value and trust our journal so much. Thank you to authors, reviewers, associate and special editors and the great production team at Pensoft Publishers.

@deevybee Web of Science recently delisted 50 journals, removing their impact factors. But “Clarivate initially did not name any of the delisted journals or provide specific reasons.” Why wouldn’t they identify them?!

It’s actually across #disciplines (vs within them) that I think #ImpactFactors are most problematic, since disciplinary citation practices & publishing speed vary so immensely
(My main fields, esp #sociology, sort of average out by being extremely slow—so at 5 yrs, an article might be just starting to show up in published lit—but also requiring a large number of #citations due to having few widely shared standards for good work, thus emphasizing “framing”)

@Dunleavy thanks good to hear, the #HorizonEU grant isn't a problem! And I really like the concept, I'd love to get away from "#impactfactors" but it doesn't seem to be very well known or used in #climate fields yet. What is the idea generally? There is no shortage of journals I was wondering why the #EU (or rather #EC I guess?) Decided to make their own?

Anyone here ever #publishing on the EU platform #OpenResearchEurope ? It looks like a really interesting concept and I like the philosophy but we do unfortunately still #science in a world of #ImpactFactors.
I have a publication in preparation (resulting from the #CMIP6ArcticBootcamp - see the birdsite), and it looks like a good platform but I don't see a lot of #climate or #CMIP6 stuff in there ..? #help
