Some rapidly call out license plate numbers, makes and models, while another scribbles the information down. This is what monitoring ICE operations looks like in the east coast’s most sparsely populated state: documenting the agency’s unmarked vehicles and keeping a record of detainments – the people arriving for routine appointments or brought in by agents and never seen leaving.

#ICE agents have been turning up in cars around Somali-owned businesses and schools that teach children from immigrant backgrounds. Rightwing so-called “influencers”, including leaders at #TurningPointUSA, have followed suit.

Since then, Somali-owned businesses have struggled to attract customers and schools have closed due to low attendance fueled by the presence of federal agents and anti- #immigrant provocateurs.

Today, the #Somali community in #Columbus, which numbers around 60,000 people, is still reeling from the fallout.

The moment 19-year-old Emely Agustin spotted the group of masked #immigration agents tackling a woman face down on the pavement, her heart dropped.

She saw the woman’s red jacket.

“Oh my fucking God. That’s my mom!” she screamed.

It was the morning of 5 November in Cottage Grove, #Oregon, and masked officers with #ICE had dragged Juanita Avila out of her van. The agents pinned her down as she cried out for her daughter, who started filming. Juanita, a legal permanent resident, had her green card in her pocket, but officers handcuffed and detained her.

She just had to read her social media feed. “I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches and entitlement junkies,” Noem wrote on X in December. She added, “WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”

Reyes, a Federal District Court judge in Washington, cited Noem’s post at the very beginning of a blistering opinion issued Monday night preventing the administration from ending Temporary Protected Status for Haitians, at least for now. That status was due to expire on Tuesday, rendering more than 350,000 Haitians who are now legally living and working in America #undocumented overnight.

#ICE agents initially claimed Alberto Castañeda Mondragón had tried to flee while handcuffed and “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall,” according to court documents filed by a lawyer seeking his release.

But staff members at Hennepin County Medical Center determined that could not possibly account for the fractures and bleeding throughout the 31-year-old’s brain, said three nurses familiar with the case.

Two protesters have been blinded by so-called “less-lethal” munitions deployed by federal officers during an anti- #ICE #protest last week in Santa Ana, California, according to reports.

Widely seen video recorded at the Santa Ana protest showed a homeland security agent shoot Kaden Rummler, 21, in the face with a less-lethal munition at a distance of only a few feet. Doctors found glass shards and plastic fragments in his skull and a fragment of metal lodged just shy of his carotid artery.

From afar, this tragic and possibly criminal act of violence could plausibly be seen as incidental to President Trump’s mission to deport #undocumented people from the country. But when I landed in Minneapolis on Monday and saw the size, scope and lawlessness of the federal onslaught unfolding here, I understood that Good’s killing was emblematic of its true mission: to stage a spectacle of cruelty upon a city that stands in stark defiance against #Trump’s dark vision of America.

It is a ritual that began in August, a month after the opening of the remote detention camp celebrated by Donald #Trump for its harsh conditions, and hailed by Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, as a model for the president’s aggressive detention and #deportation agenda.

The open air vigils continued, and grew in size, through the brutal heat and torrential rains of the south Florida summer. They endured through a federal judge’s order in August that “Alligator Alcatraz” should close, and a subsequent reversal by an appeals court; the protesters’ voices grew louder at alleged human rights abuses and violence inflicted on detainees.

The judge also wrote that #Immigration and Customs Enforcement had presented false information about Mr. Clarke’s arrest and had ignored court orders by failing to present him for a hearing and provide photographs of the cell. He questioned why the agency should not be held in contempt.

As people made their way into the Indianapolis Union Station for a naturalization ceremony, federal officials stopped certain applicants and told them that they wouldn't be leaving the building with #US citizenship.

The #immigrants — who had already passed every step in the long #naturalization process — needed only to take the oath of allegiance Dec. 9, 2025, to become citizens. A federal directive handed down on Dec. 2, however, made that impossible for more than one third of people signed up for the Indianapolis ceremony.

Zhibo Zhao, a US Citizenship and Immigration Services official present at the event, said oaths of allegiance for 38 of the 100 participants were "canceled."

The crowd marched from the terminal to the offices of Signature Aviation — a private aviation terminal used by some private charter planes for #deportation flights.
