Growing up, my mother could answer any homework question I had. She knew everything.
I didn't learn the truth until I was a senior in high school. What she told me that day changed how I understood everything she'd done for me.It was a sacrifice I never saw, happening in moments I'll never remember.
Sometimes the greatest acts of love are the ones that happen in silence.#Education #MothersLove #ImmigrantExperience #Family #Sacrifice

Identity, tradition, modernity & ambition collide in Mumbai’s elite. Indian writer Devika Rege’s novel Quarterlife made me reflect on my 1980s US immigrant life and the search for belonging across cultures. A novel that captures both the personal and the political.

Anthony Shim's “#RiceboySleeps ” tells the #story of a young #Korean boy & his mother #immigrating to #BritishColumbia in the ‘90s. Shim describes the #film a #SemiAutobiographical, inspired by his own #PersonalJourney .
"Growing up, I felt like I'd never seen a film, or a TV show, or even a play that depicted the #ImmigrantExperience in the way that (reflected my own)," said Shim, who lived on #VancouverIsland before moving to #Coquitlam as a teenager.
