  3. Awards Eligibility post (2 of 2):

I'm also an editor! I co-edited the anthology SOLARPUNK CREATURES, pubbed in January 2024 by World Weaver Press. Check it out at worldweaverpress.com/store/p18

I also had the privilege to work with
@premeesaurus on a story that appeared in
Grist as a special #Imagine2200 Editors Pick. Read it here: grist.org/climate-fiction/imag

  4. About 7 months ago, I approached Premee Mohamed to see if she would write a climate fiction story for Grist, which would be published outside of the #Imagine2200 contest.

She sent in this delightful piece about a young woman getting separated from her nomadic city during a storm. It was a joy for me to edit this story, and now everyone can read it!

  8. With this year's grist.org/imagine2200/ #grist #imagine2200 coming up I'm considering submitting a short story myself!

I have about 30 drafts started and I sure do hope that no one will find my notes hidden among the @SolarpunkPrompts #solarpunk #writing #podcast

  9. I'm teaching a seminar for Clarion West on April 4th! Drawing on my experience as an anthology editor for World Weaver Press and a story reviewer for Imagine 2200, I'll go over some of the most common issues that I see in climate fiction slush piles.

  10. "Children as young as six years old have contributed to civic matters. Do voices get raised? Sure. Do men burst into tears? Quite often. Do passions drown out reasoned accounts? Eh, not as often as you fear. Our children learn to listen at a young age and become adept in the skill as adults."

  11. The 2nd place winner “The Last Almond” by Zoe Young ends with one of those poignant images that sticks with you, which I think the illustrator Mikyung Lee captured perfectly!

“As California prepares to destroy a levee and sacrifice its last remaining almond farm, its caretaker remembers the toll floodwaters have taken on his family.”

  12. I practically wrote a whole essay on this story in the Grist Slack channel while we were considering submissions. It’s a complex, layered story of climate justice, Jewish diaspora, & the hard work of restoration. Plus mammoths! 🦣

A Seder in Siberia by @louisevans
“The arrival of a surprise visitor at a family’s Passover celebration reveals the true story of how they came to be climate exiles.”

  13. “This year’s collection of stories features a diverse range of characters and perspectives, from beekeepers and cooks to families and communities. But they all share a common thread: a belief in the power of hope to overcome even the most daunting challenges.”

  14. I'm surprised and excited to learn that the Imagine 2200 1st place winner is a first-time author! "To Labor for the Hive" is a sweet and masterfully written story. I expect to see much more from Jamie Liu in the future! 🥋📱 🐝

"A beekeeper finds a new sense of purpose and community after helping to develop a warning system for floods."

  15. "The Blossoming" was one of my favorites in this year's #Imagine2200 contest because it's so fun and heartfelt. I'm thrilled to learn it's by Commando Jugendstil, aka Guglielmo Miccolupi and Laura C Zanetti-Domingues.

I've had the privilege of publishing several of their other stories in my #solarpunk anthologies! 🐄 🌸 🚲

"A student seeking his purpose in life makes a discovery that could revive a friend’s vital research."

  16. The winning stories of the Imagine 2200 climate fiction contest are now live! These stories celebrate vivid, hope-filled stories of climate progress.

I was one of the story reviewers who sorted through slush to determine which ones were passed up to the judges. Check out the stories and the beautiful art that accompanies them!

  17. 👀 The newest #Imagine2200 Editor's Pick story is "When We Are Ruins, Dance on Us" by M Jesuthasan

This story blew my mind the first time I read it! It's from the point of view of the former Supreme Court of Singapore--the building itself! It's a fascinating piece of #ClimateFiction that's both dystopian and hopeful, both grounded and mystical.

I'd love to hear what you think about it.
