#macmini Any ideas for a 27 inch or larger monitor for a Mac Mini M4 pro? Gonna retire my 2017 #imacpro - loved it but it’s long in the tooth. Been a while since I had to buy a monitor separately.

Which is amazing — the m4 max gpu (so far) has 40 cores vs the 38 in M2 Max gpu; only 2 more.

If 2x is the threshold for a sufficiently meaningful upgrade — the rule of thumb by which I typically decide — the M2 Max ➡️ M4 Max qualifies.

Multiple displays on a Mac sucks

So many people I've worked with have used multiple displays - typically a matched pair side-by-side - and sworn by them. It's always mystified me, to be honest.

I've attempted the multi-display lifestyle a few times over the last thirty years. At first as a bourgeois indulgence, back when even having a single 17" display was considered luxurious1, let-alone two displays. Just because I could. Then sporadically over the years in more practical attempts to expand my screen real estate.

I bought the standard glass as soon as it was up for pre-order. And it never occurred to me to even look at the nano texture.

Which was fine — at the time, it was going to sit next to an #iMacPro. So I wanted the same polished glass.

But, now, the iMac Pro is gone, I’ve got a Mac Studio, in a different location, with lots of backlight reflections, and I’m wrecked I didn’t get the nano texture.

And sadly #Microsoft is copying that shit on #Surface #Tablets, literally gaslighting customers who got their screens cracked because the [again, inevitable over use and time] failing #battery turns itself into a #DangerPillow, saying that this doesn't happen.

Also they went a step further than the #iMacPro because one can't remove the #SurfaceTablet|s screen without destroying it in the process...

I have a 64gb #iMacPro, and I just got an #m2max #macStudio to replace it. I got #64gb ram, but I’m not very confident about that choice (should I have gotten 96?).

The iMac Pro served me *very very* well for 5+ years. Really over served, TBH. Not sure I ever really taxed it heavily very often?

What would you all say at this point, regarding ram quantities in new M2 macs?

So, I used #apple #migrationassistant to pull in the apps and user accounts from my old #imacpro to my new #macstudio.

But it didn’t work (completely)? My #photos and #music were copied, but the apps only partially ‘connected’ the files to the database entries.

I had to re-download all my photos and music from #icloud. Which was annoying and slow. So now I’m in a state of, it-seems-to-match, but I’m not 100% sure.

None of my app settings were applied (safari extensions, etc).

Not great.

I’ve got an #Apple #MacStudio coming this week. M2 Max, 64gb, 2tb.

I’m pretty pumped, TBH.

First new Mac since 2017 #iMacPro. She had a good run.

But a 200%+ jump is hard for me to even comprehend.

Now if I could just offload my standard #studiodisplay, and get the nano texture instead…

It’s also amazing how close the #MacMini with #M2Pro comes to matching the specs of its taller and more expensive sibling, the #MacStudio. Of course, that has yet to receive an #M2 update and is available in more powerful configurations, but for many users Mac mini will be the sweet spot between price and performance.
