  4. Haunting Art

"Half-way up the stairs it stands,
And points and beckons with its hands
From its case of massive oak,
Like a monk, who, under his cloak,
    Crosses himself, and sighs, alas!
With sorrowful voice to all who pass,--
    "Forever--never!
    Never--forever!"

'The Old Clock on the Stairs' a watercolor illustration by William Ladd Taylor, feels all the more haunting when paired with this snippet from the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem of the same name that it first appeared with in a 1904 issue of Ladies Home Journal.

The Dombeya is classified as a tree, and is also known as the Pink White Pear and Pink Ball tree. What attracted me to the Dombeya was the long stems and large leaves, […]

  7. The same painting, but two different results.

The two doves in the painting cozy up together on the same branch of a Jessamine tree in my garden every evening. When it rains, they huddle together in the same spot. I often watch them together in the afternoons, content in their companionship. I enjoy experimenting with art. The art featured here is the same painting with two results. The first painting (above) is created using organic material and paint. I loved the result, but it posed a long-term problem as the organic matter decays, […]
