Le #manga #IkokuNikki ("Entre les lignes" en français) a quelques scènes sur les derniers tomes qui n'ont pas été adaptées dans l'#anime, c'était vraiment une jolie conclusion touchante.

À part la jolie relation entre Asa et Makio, absolument toutstes les personnes de la bande à Makio sont incroyables et j'ai tellement de sympathie pour ce que vivent ces trente-quarantenaires.

Je crois que je vais être triste d'avoir fini, et en même temps me dire que ça n'est pas plus mal d'avoir concentré cette magnifique histoire en un court nombre de tomes! 🥰

Le dernier #IkokuNikki : oubliez les romcoms les gens, on veut du slice of life avec des vieux groupes d'amis de 30-40 ans qui se partagent leurs problèmes autour d'un verre!

Also I was a bit surprised to see that many people didn't know about the movie Makio recommended to Emiri (aka Fried Green Tomatoes), or rather about Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe novel by Fannie Flagg. I know you can't project your knowledge onto others, but this one seemed so well-known to me. It was one of my favourite books in my late teens... so I have a particularly nostalgic moment with this little detail.

Episodes 4-6: I'm not tired to express my love for this anime. It's wonderful. And it keeps being wonderful. It gives space and is filled with air to breathe and to think. Masterful characterization. Adults are adults, teenagers are teenagers. We see various facets of characters, various ways to cope, various ways to live this life. Makio is an amazing character, very well-written. And the way she's trying to build relationships is truly something (side note: Junichi Suwabe as the seiyuu choice for Kasamachi goes straight into my heart, love his voice to bits...)

#IkokuNikki c'est vraiment la pépite de la saison, chaque fin de semaine un nouvel épisode aussi bien que le précédent, avec un jeu d'acteurice tout en finesse.

A part ses qualités intrinsèques que valent le coup à elles seules, c'est remarquable de voir un #anime qui, pour une fois, traite des relations/romances avec des personnages adultes avec autant de justesse, notamment en y mélangeant une personnage principale neurodivergente.

(Même si ça n'est peut-être que mon ressenti, j'ai l'impression qu'un nombre important de personnages d'anime présente des traits neurodivergents très stéréotypés, mais avoir quelque chose de réaliste est beaucoup plus rare.)

Si on avait tous une Makio pret de soi, le monde serait sauvé.

Journal with Witch is just an absolutely heart breaking/warming gem. Beautifully (and maturely) written, acted*, scored, and superbly directed.

So many thoughts to condense - it's so very good. watch it. you may cry. or not. that's ok.

Episodes 2-3: It keeps getting better. Every single piece is in place and works so well to tell the story. Asa's mental visuals, unspoken details, truthfullness of interactions. But what's most impressive is the delicacy with which all the feelings and emotions are handled. I'm officially in love with this anime.

(It's a bit surprising to me personally because I'm not the biggest fan of Tomoko Yamashita's mangas. I haven't read this one, but I've read a couple of others, and most of the time it was storytelling that bugged me. But here everything is perfect so far. So I guess those just weren't my type of stories. This one is though)

The first episode of Ikoku Nikki (Journal with Witch, 国日記) (2026) was beautiful. One of the few anime I was genuinely waiting for, and it turned out better than I could possibly hope for. Non-linear storytelling, wonderful character design and, more importantly, topics covered: solitude, grief, mourning, road to healing. All the little details, its own contemplative tempo that stands out so much in the world of modern accelerated vibe. Also, finally, josei adapted. And it's a quiality one. I really-really hope it'll keep being good

Ikoku Nikki, a manga which I absolutely love, is getting an anime adaptation this winter, and based on the first episode, it looks like it's going to be a good one. Highly recommended.

Allez, nouvelle saison d'#anime on part directement sur un premier épisode magnifique de #IkokuNikki.

Le personnage de cette tante solitaire socially awkward et un peu ronchon qui s'est fritée avec le reste de sa famille mais qui recueille sa jeune nièce orpheline après la mort de ses parents, incroyable.

La cinématographie n'est pas en reste, comme par exemple ce superbe plan séquence où on passe en fondu animé du journal que la personnage essaie d'écrire à une scène dans son imagination, en se focalisant sur les lignes du cahier.

Another early Ikoku Nikki scene that captures some of the flavor.

There's not an official English translation as yet, but the fan translation is reasonably solid -- though occasionally some conversations can be a little hard to follow.

The story is complete as of early last year, comprising 11 collected volumes, 54 chapters.

I recently read Ikoku Nikki (Foreign Country Diary) which was really good stuff.

It's the story of Asa Takumi (15), about to start high school, who is taken in by her aunt, Makio Kodai (35), a novelist, after Asa's parents die in a car accident. It's a slice-of-life story that deals with Asa processing the loss of her parents and both her and her aunt adjusting to this major change in their living situation. Also Makio processing the loss of her (estranged) sister.

After reading #manga #IkokuNikki I felt so seen as #actuallyAutistic that I have brought the physical volumes and lend it to my BFF saying "Makio is exactly like me, her relationship with her sister is like with me and my parents, hating them for belittling us almost all our lives"

If you like comics in any form at all you must find a scanlation of Ikoku Nikki. Absolutely stunning, sad, hilarious.

It's about a young girl whose parents die suddenly in a car accident and she's taken in by her estranged aunt, a 30-something novelist with lots of emotional defenses.
