🏥 #HepatitisD is a particularly severe form of the liver disease, but IHI project VIROMARKERS is working to change that.

🧑‍⚕️ In a new paper, the VIROMARKERS team describes how the levels of different forms of a viral protein in the blood could help doctors identify the patients most likely to benefit from a promising treatment called bulevirtide, and help to advance therapeutic innovation.

🐾 Toxicity testing in #DrugDevelopment typically involves two species of animal.
💡 But what if we could reduce the number of species used to one?
That's the thinking behind a topic in IHI call 13 - we're looking for a consortium to develop a weight-of-evidence for a standardised process to waive the second species and build an AI-driven model to select the most appropriate single species to be used.

🏖️ The second post in our #SummerOfScience series is COMBINE's pneumonia model and preclinical bacterial strain repository, which will help to accelerate the development of new antibiotics targeting drug-resistant bacteria #AMR.

Using the model developed by COMBINE will eliminate much of the variability in experimental conditions, and increase the likelihood that results are comparable across labs.
