It’s the year of our Lord 2025 … and thanks to @faheus’ excellent Nerdsniping skills I’m trying to get my old #FireWire #ieee1394 Audio Interfaces running reliably in Linux ;)
Verdict so far: MOTU amazingly works very well using in-kernel ALSA FireWire drivers. FFADO (in its pipewire-incarnation) still a catastrophe, as was 12 years ago. EchoAudio still randomly crashes machines as was the case 2014 :).

While Apple is working hard to send perfectly working high-end recording studio gear into landfills, Takashi Sakamoto continues to maintain the #FireWire code within the Linux kernel.
If you have such a device and would like to keep use it, help him test the code for #LinuxKernel 6.12
