It's International Day of Persons with Disabilities today (although many of us would prefer 'disabled people').
Autism is widely considered a disability, meaning that autistic people have a right to freedom from discrimination, and for 'reasonable adjustments' to be made.
Not all autistic people think of ourselves as disabled, but the #neurodiversity movement & the overlapping movement for autistic rights are best understood as part of the wider movement for human rights for disabled people.
AMASE is a Disabled People's Organisation (DPO), specifically an Autistic People's Organisation.
A DPO is a representative organisation run by, and for, disabled people. The UN #CRPD mandates a special role for DPOs: states must actively involve persons with disabilities, including children with disabilities, through our representative organizations.
