Encore un correcteur trop zélé (c'est legarcon.net, pas legarçon.net)

Le dernier numéro du magazine du département fait la pub d’un commerce en donnant l’URL de son site internet, avec un caractère accentué dans le nom de domaine en .fr… sauf que le domaine ne marche pas. Il faut supprimer l’accent pour que ça fonctionne.

J’ai écrit à la rédactrice en chef pour signaler la coquille et expliquer que accent ou pas d’accent, ça fait deux noms de domaines
différents.

Vous avez un peu d'expérience avec les IDN (Internationalized Domain Names), soit des noms de domaine contenant d'autres caractères que ceux ASCII ?

Je m'interroge surtout quant à leur compatibilité par rapport aux outils et aux logiciels. Les navigateurs, OK, ils les supportent tous, je n'ai pas à m'en faire.

Pour les API et autres outils, par contre...

Apparently @protonprivacy Mail does not work with IDN-enabled addresses - web client calls them "invalid" :blobcatumm:

But if you rewrite IDN domain (repečka.com) to punycode (xn--repeka-l2a.com) manually, :protonmail: is able to deliver.

Die Schreibweise ist ja gültig... ist halt die #ASCII-kompatible Kodierung eines #Unicode-Domainnamens... und die Schreibweise mit "ue" anstelle "ü" wurde offenbar gar nicht erst dazu registriert... ;-)

Hey Sphinx users, does anyone know how to configure a Sphinx project to not use #idN in inline anchors for subheadlines which start with integers (e.g. versions in release notes/changelogs)? I mean, other than prefixing the subheadline with 'v’ or ‘Release’? #python #sphinx

The fact that @signalapp has been closing all error reports about unclickable links when using internationalized domain names for years is really annoying. Solutions to protect against #IDN homograph attacks, which have repeatedly been cited as the reason for the rejections, have been around for a long time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDN_homograph_attack#Defending_against_the_attack). 😞

@benjamingeer Yes but #IDN are now 20 years old (first version was IDNA2003 🙂 ), so let us wait maybe 20 years of #EAI to see if it holds or not. I unfortunately agree with your feelings, the world is not ready (because doesn't care... and won't I guess until this works properly at one major email provider). And not sure exactly of the #ICANN UA group exact practical consequences anywhere…

@benjamingeer Isn't it classical loop of offer and demand in a market? No offer for it because, even if standardized (between #IDN, #IRI and #EAI), noone cares to ask for such, because it will break in lots of place (so you would need anyway to ask for one such email + anyway one ASCII email as well), and in turn it breaks in lots of places because people don't care about this new "case" (after berating users for years not to use "special" characters anywhere... 😞 ). #IDNs are already a mess…
