Hey @pamelarosiedee! Loved your keynote! Now where shall we have those discussions in the #identity industry and security by design and sliders and knobs?
Identity X is close to a ghost town these days (and tbh I don't particularly want to get back there...)
Is the fediverse a good place? Maybe #IDPro slack?#identiverse

Submitted 2 different sessions already this year. One was to #identiverse focusing on some #macadmins things. The second is @bsidesseattle focusing on lessons learned from #ciem deployments. Trying to think of something new for @defcon. What are #microsoft365 or #EntraID topics you’d all like to see?

@m_artigiani Personally, it's not that it's being explained poorly, rather, people are too used to siloed / closed-garden #SNS that they find it hard to get their heads around it.

For example, in the #messenger / #InstantMessenger space, we've had #federation since the late 90s, thanks to #XMPP (formerly known as #Jabber). We didn't encounter this issue, people simply understood it like how people understood email.

Then later, there's #Matrix, which is also a federation. But I haven't heard anyone ask or got confused how it works.

In a way, I would say #Trillian, #PsiIM, #Gajim, and the interoperability of #ICQ and #AIM played a role there.

However, when it comes to SNS, majority of people were never exposed to interoperable SNS. Since #Friendster #MySpace #Hi5 came out, there never was a federated SNS until 2008 when the #Fediverse was born (then called #Identiverse).

The #ATproto / #BlueSky federation is coming in 2024, so we'll see if they'll encounter the same challenges in explaining instances. If they do, or do not (as the BlueSky team are saying they won't have that issue), then we'll know better since we'll have a comparison by then.

For me, I think we've done everything that we can to explain it.

#Rappler, please correct this: Users of #Mastodon have created a “Fediverse”…

Please also correct: “Mastodon's fediverse”. The fediverse is not Mastodon's, Mastodon is simply one part of the #Fediverse network.

A little #history.

* 2008: #identica, powered by #OStatus protocol, came online. The first publicly launched federated platform, or software, as well as service.

* 2010: #Friendica (called #Mistpark during development, and #Friendika when it) launched publicly.

(aside) * 2010(?): diaspora launched (diaspora protocol). Their network is called “The Fediverse” (or maybe later? I can't remember this part)

* Sometime between 2010 and 2012, the term #Fediverse was first coined to replace the brand-based terminology #identiverse (based on identica).

* 2014: The W3C started the #ActivityPub protocol working group.

* 2016: Mastodon launched, supporting only the #OStatus protocol.

* 2017 July: #Hubzilla officially added support for the ActivityPub protocol.

* 2017 September: Mastodon officially added support for the ActivityPub protocol

* 2018 January: ActivityPub officially reached “W3C Recommendation” (a.k.a. launched, stable, final, recommended standard)

The Fediverse has existed since 2008. Eight years before the “Mastodon” platform/software launched. It was not even the first to implement the ActivityPub protocol.

Other than those mentioned, everything is cool.

I love to read #books. My first was Book 5 of the original #CYOA entitled, “The Mystery of Chimney Rock” when I was around four (I still have the book somewhere with a missing cover). By fourteen, I enjoyed reading a non-fiction book entitled simply as “Brain”, and dreamed of becoming a neuroscientist, which sadly remained a dream.

My longest read were #PeterFHamilton's “Pandora's Star” and “Judas Unchained” (more or less 1,000 pages each). My number one favourite is #LynnKurland's “Dreams of Stardust” (I even bought every copy I saw and gave it away).

When it comes to genre, I read anything. In the classics, I love #JaneEyre by Charlotte Brontë. I also read #NeilGaiman's “American Gods”. But I do have genres I favour more than others: #ScienceFiction and #Fantasy. To be more specific, science fiction and fantasy with #TimeTravel and #ParallelWorld elements, if the author can combine it together, even better (like Lynn Kurland's novels: #scifi + fantasy + #romance and sometimes with #paranormal too).

That said, my taste in live-action shows is somewhat similar. And the more complex and/or engaging the story is, the more I love it. Some examples are:

#Games? This one is a long history. Who doesn't love games, right? To sum it up, I started with Nintendo's “Game & Watch”, then “Family Computer”. I also was able to experience playing in Atari and MSX; as well as table-top #arcade machines. My favourite games are: “Super Mario Bros.”, “#Bomberman”. As well as, “Curse of the Azure Bonds” (#ForgottenRealms) and the Krynn series (#DragonLance) by TSR, “Sim Farm”, “Sim City”, “#PrinceOfPersia”, “#ManiacMansion”, “Neverwinter Nights”, “Eye of the Beholder”, “#Ultima” series, and the Carmen Sandiego franchise, for the PC. (coughDigger*cough*)

In modern #gaming, I highly recommend #GuildWars2, #StarTrekOnline, #Neverwinter, and the open-source #rhythm game, #Quaver.

For extended reality, or XR, games, I play #Ingress, #PikminBloom, #Orna, and #Qonqr; sometimes #PokemonGo.

Last, but definitely not the least, I am a #Natsari as defined in Acts 24. It means that I believe in the #Torah and the #Messiah.

My longest read were #PeterFHamilton's “Pandora's Star” and “Judas Unchained” (more or less 1,000 pages each). My number one favourite is #LynnKurland's “Dreams of Stardust” (I even bought every copy I saw and gave it away).

When it comes to genre, I read anything. In the classics, I love #JaneEyre by Charlotte Brontë. I also read #NeilGaiman's “American Gods”. But I do have genres I favour more than others: #ScienceFiction and #Fantasy. To be more specific, science fiction and fantasy with #TimeTravel and #ParallelWorld elements, if the author can combine it together, even better (like Lynn Kurland's novels: #scifi + fantasy + #romance and sometimes with #paranormal too).

That said, my taste in live-action shows is somewhat similar. And the more complex and/or engaging the story is, the more I love it. Some examples are:

#Games? This one is a long history. Who doesn't love games, right? To sum it up, I started with Nintendo's “Game & Watch”, then “Family Computer”. I also was able to experience playing in Atari and MSX; as well as table-top #arcade machines. My favourite games are: “Super Mario Bros.”, “#Bomberman”. As well as, “Curse of the Azure Bonds” (#ForgottenRealms) and the Krynn series (#DragonLance) by TSR, “Sim Farm”, “Sim City”, “#PrinceOfPersia”, “#ManiacMansion”, “Neverwinter Nights”, “Eye of the Beholder”, “#Ultima” series, and the Carmen Sandiego franchise, for the PC. (*cough*Digger*cough*)

In modern #gaming, I highly recommend #GuildWars2, #StarTrekOnline, #Neverwinter, and the open-source #rhythm game, #Quaver.

For extended reality, or XR, games, I play #Ingress, #PikminBloom, #Orna, and #Qonqr; sometimes #PokemonGo.

Last, but definitely not the least, I am a #Natsari as defined in Acts 24. It means that I believe in the #Torah and the #Messiah.

I love to read #books. My first was Book 5 of the original #CYOA entitled, “The Mystery of Chimney Rock” when I was around four (I still have the book somewhere with a missing cover). By fourteen, I enjoyed reading a non-fiction book entitled simply as “Brain”, and dreamed of becoming a neuroscientist, which sadly remained a dream.
