I understand the calendar shift for major SE venues, but the idea of having to go to class today after getting back from 6 days of #icse2024 is a little daunting.

The paper "Predicting open source contributor turnover from value-related discussions: An analysis of GitHub issues" by Jack Jamieson et al shows (this is my reading) that values-oriented developer communities are vulnerable to trolling that steers them towards discussions about respectfulness. Of course such discussions can be the results of structural issues. But they are doing much better when focusing on how values are expressed in their outputs/products.

The use of US demographic categories for non-US populations, especially from non-US academics always gives me a hard time.

Martin Rinard calls for software engineering research on LLMs beyond code: „Much research to date has focused on using LLMs to work with code
But software engineering is about much more than code
What are system goals?
How should those goals be realized?“#icse2024 @icse
