  1. "It is like a family reunion"

Last month we were proud to host this year's edition of the International Conference on Live Coding in Utrecht.
It became an unforgettable edition with our friends at Toplap Barcelona, Toplap Karlsruhe, Ljudmila Lab and NL_CL, as well as all the contributors! And the aftermovie shows just that ✨👀

  2. on the almost last quarter or fifth of our drive now. we caught a long, almost 4 hour train drive from Augsburg (we arrived from Düsseldorf) to Bischofshofen, we are now on a bus for an hour, and will go again on a half hour of train to Villach. After morning cancellation of one longer stretch train and breaking down of another it's been now a smooth run. So far. The weather is grey cloudy but dry.

  3. I made it to the #algorave last night (pictured...? Yaxu & Lucy Cheesman, great multi-rhythmic set). Kinda fun that, after many years of development, coders are still crashing their interpreters midway thru their gig, ha. #iclc2023

  4. We had a great time yesterday dancing the night away during Immersed In Code, and we're not gonna leave it at that: because we're going to keep on dancing tonight during the #Algorave in TivoliVredenburg #ICLC2023

You can still get some tickets at tivolivredenburg.nl/algorave!

  5. bespoke sighting at #ICLC2023 last week! thanks to @madcoil for the pic

  6. Riding back late at night to my hotel from a gig at #ICLC2023 in Utrecht in the company of a peloton of nonchalant Dutch fietsers has to be one of the highlight experiences of my life.

  7. #ICLC2023 workshop "Easy Stochastic Live Coding with Mégra 3" by Alicia Champlin and Niklas Reppel by VOGELFREI, which offers a hands-on tutorial in applying the basics of Mégra 3, with time for exploration and free play.

  8. #ICLC2023 workshop "Introduction to Nix for Live Coding Software Packaging" by Alejandro Sánchez Medina at de Havenloods, a guided introduction to Nix (nixos.org/), a functional package manager for declarative configuration of general software dependencies

  9. #ICLC2023 workshop "Nodysseus.THREE: Live Lowcoding THREE.js Visuals in the Browser" by Ulysses Popple in de Kadeboot, De Nijverheid, to help coders think in node networks and have a spiffy live(low)code party trick they can revisit at any time.

  10. #ICLC2023 workshop "The Craft of (Algorave) Documentation" by Dan Gorelick at VOGELFREI, a theoretical and practical session on the craft of documenting art, specifically through the lens of live-code performances.

  11. Closing words & remarks by Fabian van Sluijs & Luka Frelih for the end of the "official" part of the conference #ICLC2023 and a final announcement: Eric Parren & Gottfried Haider just made public that #ICLC2024 will be held in....... Shanghai! 🎉

  12. Well, there is no way we can realistically summarize Click Nilson (or one of the several entities that may or may not be him). Thank you for this amazing fever dream, may your next reincarnation happen exactly at the height of your Eurovision act!

  13. Yes, hi, hello, these are your CCU #ICLC2023 transcibers here. This closing keynote by Click Nilson is an oddity to such an extent we're not even going to try to attempt to transcribe it. So there's that.

But you can follow along here for yourself if you absolutely must: youtube.com/watch?v=FSBtvtxP00

    Viewer discretion is advised.

  14. We are sorry to announce to the live coding community that the insidious Click Nilson has been found alive. Many of us thought he was gone for good, but he has returned for evil.

In his #ICLC2023 keynote talk at 14:00 at VOGELFREI, Click Nilson will appear via video to impress, berate, confuse, enlighten, disappoint and recharge the live coding community. Maybe.

  15. ICLC2023 discussion panel: Fabian van Sluijs on the Dutch community and importance of proper funding: "An important thing for a live coding community is funding. You start out out of passion, but if you want to grow professionally you need the funding to arrange for fair pay and proper infrastructure. Luckily the Dutch funding structure has enabled us to have been growing to a proper organisation which has all these pillars: community, education, experience and several crossovers in digital society through the lands of the arts"

  17. "LivecoderA Community Report" - Shelly Knotts: "we dont have any specific goals but lots of pro-active members - we're a group that doesn't require a certain time commitment and is therefore flexible & more sustainable, rather a center point to gather and (re)group" #ICLC2023

  18. having a great time at #ICLC2023 but I am begging everyone — please just organize on email. it's searchable, persistent, and doesn't involve signing up for shady chat services

  19. The New York City live coding community has its very own ways of working, successes and its challenges. It functions according to an anarchist model, where nobody and everybody is in charge of what's happening & being organised.

Sumanth Srinivasan is representing the community ~ presenting their community report: iclc.toplap.org/2023/catalogue #ICLC2023

  20. "LiveCode NYC Over the Years: A Community Portrait" is premiering on the big screen. This AV piece was originally created as a site-specific installation at the cell for a residency awarded to LiveCode NYC projection mapped onto panels built-into the
    Flux Factory
    space #ICLC2023

  21. A significantly active community of live coders is @toplap The community report traces back its history & development: its predecessors, roots & its founding as a collective. It also sheds light on current activities & the character of the community as it is today. #ICLC2023

    Full info here: iclc.toplap.org/2023/catalogue

  22. Now on screen: the "on-the-fly Documentary", a documentary, produced by the community, where live coders could explain those things that they consider essential in this practice. Watch the documentary here: youtube.com/watch?v=ntFMuvv2-T

A Creative Europe co-funded project initiated by @hangar_org in cooperation with CCU, Ljudmila Art & Science Laboratory, Ljubljana, and ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe. More info on the documentary and the project:

  24. this show from yesterday keeps lingering in my ears

"Pirarán is a networked ensemble that hallucinates with mad light-ganglia and one-legged silences. Their algorithmic acid music oscillates between the aridity and emptiness of the post-end of time. The ensemble is made up of Iván López (Morelia, MX), Diego Villaseñor (Mexico City, MX) and Alejandro Franco Briones (Ontario, CA)."

    #iclc2023 travelogue day 5 🧵

  25. highlights from today definitely includes talks by Marije Baalman (@nescivi) and Alejandro Franco Briones, but on the evening concert the latter was joined with Diego Villaseñor de Cortina and Iván López Pineda online and they played a totally amazing performance - it could be called futurist microtonal electronic dance bass music. they ended with noise. ;)
