A beautiful, deeply personal essay on racism from SFF writer Andy Duncan, freely available from the Journal on the Fantastic in the Arts. I've met Andy on multiple occasions, and have even been his student at a 3-day workshop on writing literary criticism on science fiction. And I love his fiction and nonfiction.

Now about to see three academic papers on feminist and queer theory in fantasy literature. I haven’t seen any actual papers this year until the last day of #icfa! It’s all been panels and banquets (and hiding in my room writing) this year. The story came out really good, though!

The #ICFA panel on AI is packed, every seat taken and a bunch of folks sitting on the floor (me included). Moderator: Sang-Keun Yoo. Marist University; Ted Chiang, Author; Haerin Shin, Korean University; Derek Lee, Wake Forest University.

The great Silvia Moreno-Garcia addressing #ICFA as guest of honor
(The hotel’s podium is huge and all the women speakers have been mostly hidden behind it)

Still working. Took a break to get some wine at the conference reception though! Have to edit a bit of my intro to the Baseball Research Journal and then back to work on the #ICFA story.

This short story is coming out a primal scream of grief from/for both academics and trans folk everywhere. It is very much "of the moment." So yeah, I'm going to finish writing it so I can read it at #ICFA on Friday morning. It's nominally futuristic but only by about a minute.

My office today. At #ICFA ☀️ I’m supposed to be blogging for my Kickstarter but that short story I started writing yesterday is burning a hole in my brain so I’m writing that. #amwriting and it’s the best feeling 💕

Submissions are now open for #VICFA, the Virtual International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts.
I've attended the regular conference, #ICFA, four times, and last year I presented at the first VICFA, which tries to schedule sessions across a wide range of times so people all over the world can attend. It's definitely worth it, whether you're a creative writer or a scholar. Nigerian author Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki is helming the conference.

Scrolling through FB, seeing that a famous, elderly science-fiction writer (often in frail health) caught Covid at ICFA (International Conference for the Fantastic in the Arts--one of my favorite conferences to attend) recently, and on other attendees' pages I see photo after photo of unmasked faces, and one SF academic/writer who used to be very big on masking now saying "I don't worry about catching Covid anymore."
JFC people...

So, @spladayum has officially broken my brain at #ICFA. Don't ask me any hard questions today. I can answer nothing...

Heading to #ICFA Intl conf on the fantastic in the arts this morning!

Just a heads up for #LitStudies and #scifi studies people who, like me, end up missing #CfP deadlines.
#ASA 2023 (Montreal) submissions are open all of January.
#MELUS 2023 (Indianapolis) is taking abstracts until January 10th.
#MLA 2024 (Philadelphia): call for papers for seminars can be posted from now through February. And paper abstracts are submitted in March (I believe).
The Utopian Studies Society (#USS) call usually runs through mid-May. Also keeping my eyes open for the NYC #CityTech Science Fiction conference (which I've sadly missed so far) and #ICFA.
I'm taking a time-out from #ACLA. A reproductive rights seminar the year that Roe is repealed is apparently not CompLit enough? Let me hold my peace before I re-litigate long-standing disciplinary gripes.

@skylerwrites No, but I’m going to #ICFA and #Stokercon next year, maybe #Readercon. I’ve never been to #Norwescon. What’s it like?
