A day of mixed weather, but we were determined to visit this remote place.

The light quality, the hazy atmosphere, the patches of sunshine and the tonal perspective all contributed to this scene of unearthly beauty.

Off The Shelf

The weather was not at its best, cool and drizzly, so we didn't stop to admire this unusual cascade. As we drove past, I wished we had.

When we saw the sheep around the base of the drops, we realised it was private land, so we didn't turn back.

The clouds attempting to obscure the mountains of Stokksnes were trying to spoil our view.

They failed; the sculpted flanks held the capped cloud above like an adornment, and the vista was improved.

Autumnal

Between dark clouds, the sun spotlit the serried terraces tumbling down to the fjord far below.

High turrets of mountains displayed their ribs. A patchwork of highlights slid across soft hills lower down.

Everywhere around, the soothing sound of water splashing down to meet the fjord below.

Leeward

This beautiful and dramatic pyramidical stack of basaltic strata is a regular stop for us. It has a wonderful strength about it.

Every time we've been there, it looks different. This time, a clump of cloud had formed on the leeward side of the peak, and patchy sunlight was picking out details in the structure.

Splash

Many intelligent creatures play, when hunger is satisfied they look for pastimes.

These beautiful animals were racing each other through the water, their sleek bodies leaping and, instead of the simple "surface and breath" behaviour, they were making splashes.

Surely, they were doing it for fun?

Welcome To Narnia

Clothed in autumnal colours, streams tumbling beside us, waterfalls on every steep rockface, and the beauty of the long fjord leading to the sea. Magical.

Fjarðardalur, the "Fjord Valley," softly lit by sunlight from behind us and patched by cloud shadows ahead.

Looking like a scene from a fantasy novel, this is Mjóifjörður in eastern #Iceland.
