The web interface for #IceDrive seems very slow today, but it's what I'm stuck with while WebDAV remains out.

It's been two weeks since #WebDAV last worked on #IceDrive. Annoying.

Years ago, I paid $50 for a lifetime 150 gigabytes on #IceDrive. It's always reachable via the web interface, but the amount of time it's not reachable via #WebDAV is annoying.

After a lot of time and stress/pain - partly from what #IceDrive support gave me and partly through my own research, I can finally actually test the app.

Apparently, there are issues in older versions of QTWebEngine/#Chromium and #NVIDIA drivers.

Launching the AppImage with QT_QUICK_BACKEND=software and QTWEBENGINE_DISABLE_GPU=1

enabled the app to load.

That's one headache done.

It does make me wonder if the LOTRO store is an old chromium version as well, though.

In case anyone else is on #Icedrive #Linux. If I log out, the login screen loads next time around, THEN the dashboard shows.

However subsequent loading of the app causes the Black Screen of Doom.

No other application I have installed has this behaviour, but then again I don't know whether I have other apps that have the same dependencies.

On Linux, their "install" is an "AppImage" in case that changes anything.

Okay, desperate call to any techy #Linux people. I've had a support thread since February sometime with #IceDrive, because the app renders with a black background.

We've checked NVIDIA drivers and switching hardware/software rendering. Nada.

It's something to do with "QTWebEngine" not working with machine in this specific app. I just installed a different QT-dependent app and it worked AOK.

I'm on X11, but can occasionally get it to load under Cinnamon (Wayland).

Anyone out there have ideas?

Well, something's messed up on my graphics as FFXIV wouldn't load and #LOTRO sort of worked but then froze up for 15-30 seconds at a time.

Reverting graphics drivers, which I'd been trying to update because #IceDrive support think I can't load their app due to graphics driver incompatibilities. Thankfully, that's my secondary backup system.

So I'm downgrading my drivers to what they were and hoping I can play SOMETHING.

Well, I've found the issue with #IceDrive. And lost 2hours of my evening.

Thankfully, they're not the cloud system I've paid for. I was considering it when they had discounted lifetime options. But after this experience, and them clearly not being able to understand my issues, I'm glad they're a secondary service.

I haven't "fixed" the issue because I'm not a software dev. But I have a workaround that proves where the issue is. :blobcatgooglyshrug:

Ice Drive is not bad; it's fast and neat.
The prices are not that expensive, either. No ads and trackers.

Except, encryption is a paid feature 😬
and it's not open source.

Dammit I can't use «IceDrive» because the certificate has expired and due my android is the seventh version (too old) I can't use it... So cool the planned obsolescence...

It looks like I have to buy a new smartphone. I really like this because is small... The new ones are too big.

Nou, als ik een VPN wil gebruiken voor extra veiligheid, dan doe ik dat dus. En dat ga ik dus niet uitzetten voor Hetzner.

Inmiddels #Icedrive aangeslingerd en de sync loopt inmiddels. Dus, overstap gelukt. Stack van TransIP kan opgezegd worden, die loopt tot 4 september, en de sync zal dan wel klaar zijn :)

Для тех кому интересно насчет IceDrive. Вот так выглядит десктопное приложение для Mac OS.

Не самый плохой вариант, я хочу сказать. Вроде как планируют монтирование диска на Mac в скорой перспективе, но а там кто знает.

Быстрая инспекция внешнего вида, да и внутренностей показывает, что сделано на Electron. Ну что поделаешь, хоть так.

Иконка приложения, кстати, ничего так - приятная.

Di alternative a Google Drive ce ne sono davvero tante. La maggior parte di loro è criptata end-to-end, a differenza del Drive di Google!
