Global #icecliff survey tests disputed theory behind projections of #sealevelrise
Marine #ice-cliff instability is theory that tall ice cliffs, taller than about 100m (328ft), can become unstable and trigger rapid, self-sustaining ice loss. Because process has never been directly observed, scientists debated if it should be included in projections of sea level rise.
#WHOI's "findings suggest ice-sheet models may underestimate how quickly tall ice cliffs can break apart."
