Archaeologists have identified the oldest human remains yet found in northern Britain as those of a young girl who lived more than 11,000 years ago. Her bones came from Heaning Wood Bone Cave near Great Urswick in Cumbria. Radiocarbon dates place her burial between 9290 and 8925 BCE...

Mute #Swans near the #Cranberry bogs of #Wisconsin. (The area is basically a huge wet sand bar rolled flat by the #Glaciers in the last #IceAge.)
The pair was 30 feet from the road when I first drove by, but there was absolutely no place to pull off, so I drove 1/4 mile to a side road and walked back.
They were much more skittish when I approached on foot. So I used my long lens and did not try to get closer.
Note that they have brown heads because they have recently been feeding on the muddy bottom. 🙂

Das auf dem Bild ist ein Desmane. Die Tierart, die Vorbild war für die Trickfigur Scrat aus Ice Age.
Diese Tierart ist sehr eng mit dem Maulwurf verwand. Bis heute gibt es zwei Desmanarten. Sie gelten als Anzeiger für besonders sauberes #Wasser.
