  2. Apparently Lidl owns the `.lidl` TLD, and this (in part) gets their emails flagged as spam by my server.

These brand TLDs were a REALLY DUMB idea by ICANN. Why do we need TLDs per company? And do people actually trust them?

And then there's apparently another round coming 😐

  3. Oh, goody. #ICANN has announced it's opening up applications for new generic top-level domains.

All the ones added since they first started doing this - i.e. when the only generic TLDs were .com, .net, and .org - are, as far as I can see, garbage and useless.

Every single email I have ever received from a domain under .biz, .online, .shop, and all the other "new" GTLDs has been either spam, scam, or phishing.

I should just block all these TLDs completely, and any other new ones this results in.

There will be a multi-year (~3 years) transition period in which both algorithms run in parallel.

Who runs the www? WSIS+20 and the future of Internet governance by Sophia Longwe

    cfp.cccv.de/39c3/talk/DBWBG8/

I need to watch the talk again as I didn't catch all of it, but I really enjoyed the speaker's focus on internet governance though the lens of the inclusion of underrepresented, non-techy, non-male, non-white, non-occidental populations.

Highly recommend watching it (and I hope my mixing made it justice, my camera angels did great work!).

Please answer if you know about TLDs/IANA:

if you really wanna #unplugtrump and don't want to have a domain in the US for anti-censorship:
    if you look at iana.org/domains/root/db/chane
the Sponsoring Organisation & Administrative Contact are in the EU, which is good
but the Technical Contact is in the US.

So is it then really save? and: the complete IANA /ICANN are in the US - so does it matter at all?
