This weekend I will take part in the #IARU HF World Championship and my main focus will be hunting WRTC stations. There are 50 teams operating under (more or less) equal conditions and with randomly assigned callsigns in the "World Radio Team Championship" in East Anglia. The call signs used were recently announced ("MB" prefix) and the full list is available on the WRTC website: https://www.wrtc2026.org/2026/07/09/wrtc-call-signs/ . With 50 teams, 5 bands (80-10m) and two modes (CW/SSB) there is a potential of 500 contacts. Let's see how far I get! #hamradio #contesting

#HamRadioFriedrichshafen faire is over and I'm on my way home. It was very worth it!
Meeting old friends. Getting to know new people. Friendly, helpful contacts at many booths, e.g., @BNetzA . Firsthand official info (plus some detailled background) by @AJW + colleagues. Fun presentations, e.g., by celebrity Martin, DK7ZB and new (to me, at least) presenter Dan 4Z5SL. Inspiring conversations, e.g., with the enthusiastic folks of the #IARU innovation area.
I expect #UKWTagung will be fun, too!

Given these circumstances, the result of eight contacts into four locator squares and three countries and a total score of 782 is still a success!
And the most important thing: it was a lot of fun playing once again with the trusty little FT-818 in less than perfect weather. (2/2)

The plan was to participate in the #IARU #UHF #Contest from the 1284 m tall Schauinsland (SOTA: DM/BW-008) in the Black Forest.
Due to bad weather (storm, rain) we had to cancel this plan and participated from a spur above the city of Freiburg instead. Roughly 900 m lower than planned.
While erecting the quad series antenna, one element broke and we had to use our backup antenna, a simple HB9CV. (1/2)

Meine #IARU 145MHz-Contest-Teilnahme von heute. Mit 40W, 4-EL-Yagi und guten Bedingungen in 5 Stunden* 38 Verbingungen geschafft. Und, sehr crazy: eine davon bis nach England, 817 km weit!
Insgesamt 8 Länder, 20 Großfelder und ein Schnitt von 246km/QSO.*davon ca. 3,5 aktiv, da ich zusammen mit @df5go unterwegs war.

Yesterday evening I #POTA activated 'my hill' once again. Arrived one or two hours before sunset and started with #15m. I intended to work on the higher bands and switch to 40, 60 and 80 meters when it was dark. This did not happen. When I listened to the SSB area, 'contest' was often heard.
How could I forget? #IARU HF World Championship!
So I split my time using data modes for the activation and SSB for contesting.
When it was dark I had some interesting connections, especially on #40m. (1/2) -

I have just submitted my #IARU #HF #Contest log.
Sat for about 7 h total, #CW only. Conditions: Xiegu G90, #QRP=5 W. 5-metre vertical wire on a fishing rod, with 49:1. Iambic paddles, 20 WPM. Using #not1mm to log (found a bug in the Cabrillo export!).
Total 99 unique QSOs, almost all in Europe, about 12850 points.
I'm more and more convinced that my contest call sign, which I chose as the shortest possible call sign, EE5E, is too short and leads to many repeats.

* die Youtuber haben sich am Stand der #IARU vorgestellt. Ich habe mich gut mit @dd0ul unterhalten. Es waren auch einige interessante Newcomer dabei.
* Wir waren am Samstag im Restaurant Hegauhaus. Das war ein ganz hervorragendes Erlebnis; allerdings auch nicht ganz billig.
* Am Sonntag haben wir es endlich mal ins Technikmuseum Tettnang geschafft. Für Freunde der Rundfunk- und Computertechnik gibt es viel zu sehen.

We are up on the Hirtstein in the #OreMountains for a #contest 2-fer: #IARU Region 1 #FD as DM3F/P and #DARC #Microwave as DM7A. The #weather is stable but the HF PA broke down just one hour into the contest. So it‘s only 100 W on #shortwave for the remaining hours. #S07 #HamRadio #elecraftk3 #morsecode #Amateurfunk
