#IMadeAThing! I've refined my #Dalek control room heartbeat sound effect, adding more harmonics, tweaking the reverb and speeding it up a bit. I'm really psyched to have been able to get as close as I have to such an iconic sound effect. Here's the original for reference. Let me know what you think.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=su45cczykO8&list=RDsu45cczykO8&start_radio=1 #DoctorWho #SoundDesign #SoundEffects #SFX #SoundFX

Names from a hat
I made a list randomiser.
Sometimes at Thanet Creative: Writers’ night, we occasionally get a spectacularly large turnout. To be fair, we’ve taken to randomly drawing names from a proverbial hat to choose the order in which we read writers’ work. Whoever did not get read that week is guaranteed first read the next week.
To help choose, the randomiser. If you give it a list, it will give you a drag-and-drop list back in a randomised order.
You can find it at: hat.lordmatt.co.uk

I'm making a pattern for a bouldering chalkbag in Inkscape, and I was laying out the pages so that they would tile for my printer by hand, and thought to myself "this is going to take *minutes*, I bet that in only a few dozen hours I can write a script to do this automatically". So I wrote my first Inkscape extension.
It overlaps pages with optional registration marks. The extension, and the chalkbag pattern are up on my codeberg.

Nu har monterat gårdagens #pappersblommor på en gren. Inte bästa ljusförhållandena att fota i direkt, men här är grenen för sig och sen som bukett. Nu ska jag bara transportera den till jobbet utan att den går sönder. #IMadeAThing

If you import images with alpha channels into Blender this is a script that will trace the alpha channels of the image and create a polygon to match, and create a UV map and material to display the image.
This is useful if you're doing 2D animation with images.
This is part of my project to de-adobefy myself, by using open-source tools like Blender to replace After Effects.
The second image is a 2D rig I'm using to animate an image, built with bendy bones. Although you could possibly create rigs like this in After Effects with 3rd-party tools like DuIK and RubberHose, Blender's rigging toolset is far superior and a lot easier to set up.
My script seems to only work reliably with png images, I don't have a good enough understanding of OpenCV to deal with funky image formats, though I'd like it to be able to open multi-layer images.
Source is here: https://codeberg.org/stib/stibs_blender_scripts/src/branch/main/import_and_trace_alpha.py(To install it download the python script and go to blender preferences > addons, then click the little drop-down in the top right and choose `install from disk`)

#imadeathing

I made a thing! A purple pen roll to hold my fountain pens. Now I can take all of them traveling.
Purple thread-dyed cotton, yellow blend for the lining, quilt batting inside.

I made a thing! If you're a runner that always seems to be pointed directly into a blustery wind, you might enjoy my (first) Garmin watch face "Winderbars."
This is kind of a labor-of-love to create something I wanted for myself, but I thought I'd throw it out to the world (for the lowest price their store allows) and see what happens.
If you try it, I'd love to hear your feedback.

There's a lot of hate for the new #BOM page, but having used the beta version for ages I'm not feeling it personally. One gripe I do have is that the price tag didn't include a dark mode setting. Really?
Since I use the #DarkReader extension for #Librewolf it's not a huge issue, except that the page has background mages that make it unreadable in dark mode. So it looks like the before picture. So I got out the screwdriver, took the back off and jiggled some wires. So if anyone wants a #userScript that fixes bom.gov.au for Darkreader it's at https://codeberg.org/stib/userscripts/src/branch/main/bom_no_BG.user.js

Getting some quality time with the #lathe today. After nearly a century of use and abuse the Morse taper on the tailstock quill is only vaguely Morse taper shaped, so I'm gingerly reaming it out. Didn't have a dead center for the chuck, so first I had to turn one.

If you listen to NTS back episodes, an annoyance is that there is no volume control for the player. So I made one. This is a userscript that adds keyboard shortcuts for controlling the volume and un/muting the audio at https://nts.live
Get the script here: https://codeberg.org/stib/userscripts/src/branch/main/NTS Episode volume keys.user.js
Install with TamperMonkey or GreaseMonkey etc.

When I'm working with #Blender #GeometryNodes I like to hide unnecessary clutter. Maths nodes for example take up a lot of space, and often the name of the operation is all that you need to see what they're doing, or the name of the operation and the value of the parameter. For example when adding 1 to an input using a maths Add node having it open doesn't give you more info than collapsing it and setting the name to "+1"
This is tedious to do, but it does make complicated node trees easier to parse.
So #IMadeAThing. A little script that calls the node by what it's doing and collapses it and hides un-connected inputs.
It also spots multiples and fractions of π and 𝜏 and common fractions from 1/2 to 15/16.
So far I've only done maths nodes, but I plan on working my way through the most common nodes, and adding general tidy-up functions as I go. Next on the list is Group Input nodes with only 1 output, that can just get named after the name of the output.
It's just a script that you can run from the Blender text editor at the moment. When it's not late at night I'll make it into a proper module.
If anyone has requests or suggestions, let me know.

I had a stick jam into my wheel which caused the rear derailleur to decide that it was sick of my bullshit and throw itself into the spokes and embrace the sweet peace of oblivion.
Unfortunately it took the hanger along for the ride. Since it's a #SteelBike it's not a replaceable one, but integral to the frame.
So I just had to bend it back into place, making sure that it is in the same plane as the wheel.
There's a fancy Park Tool whizzer that does the job, but
1) it's expensive and I would use it once every few years, if that, and
2) I don't have it here, now when I'm fixing my bike.
So I built my own.
Basically the principal of the thing is that you screw a long bar into the derailleur hanger, and you have a guage on it to tell you if it's true to the wheel.
This was made from bits of scrap steel I had kicking around and an old axle bolt (which is the same size and thread as the derailleur bolt).
Details in the alt if you want to play along at home.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this. I'm repairing a table and only had one sash clamp that fit. Was about to head to the tool shop to buy more, but then thought up this One Weird Trick that Big Sash Clamp doesn't want you to know. #DIY #IMadeAThing #woodworking

Jinja HTML, a Jinja HTML template code highlighting extension for Panic's Nova editor.
If you use Nova to write Jinja HTML templates, you will know that there has long been only one language extension for Jinja in the Extension Library. You may also know that in the latest beta version, 13b1, that extension stops working properly.
I looked into trying to update the existing extension, but the fix required a ground up rewrite. So I did that!
I haven't submitted it to the Extension Library yet, because I want to dogfood it for a little while first, but if you are one of the (admittedly pretty small number of) people for whom this would be useful, you can grab it from GitHub right now!
