The bumblebees are very happy with the Hyssop flowers this morning!
There is also a much smaller pollinator resting on a tiny purple hyssop flower in the lower right.

Pollinator plant bed update. The purple coneflowers and bergamot bee balm have started to bloom The anise hyssop has had flowers for a week or so. There are still giant pansies and Johnny jump ups blooming and lots of blue borage and calendula getting flowers.

The pollinator circle was cleaned up. I think the rudbeckia hirta won't grow back except from seed after it's second winter.. I might fill that slice in with one of the perennials. Not easy to plug seedlings in there when it's full of bloom in the late summer and I'm not sure a spring planting will go 2 years if it blooms the 1st. The hyssop, purple coneflower, and bergamot are growing.
-
Mostly rudbeckia hirta with the anise hyssop, purple coneflower, and bergamot bee balm around it. The rudbeckia was planted in exactly one fifth of the circular bed.

I saw a bee on the hyssop, the rudbeckia is almost open, the purple coneflower stems are longer and the heads spikier, also a too many weird spots ladybug on the hyssop.

There have been many times when I've helped my dad out in the garden, or when I've helped with a garden at work back when I was on grounds crew in college, but it has been awhile. This year I finally started growing some plants on the balcony. Really happy to see my hyssop blooming. #hyssop #gardening #plants #flower

Pollinator bed has a little bit of hyssop that's blooming and the rudbeckiais close and the purple coneflower stems are getting longer with a flower like thing on the end. Monarda fistulosa Bergamot bee balm is 5 feet tall and still growing.
The edible border is probably all growing. Viola, Pansies, Borage, Calendula, and Nasturtium which is pictured.

@Sahkshi These would be the seed sellers I'd go for (for planting, don't eat these because they might be treated against pests and funguses with stuff that wouldn't be good for your liver) https://www.allianceofnativeseedkeepers.com/collections/hyssop-seeds but they may also know where you can get culinary hyssop local to where you are #Hyssop

@Sahkshi If you wanted to grow a balcony pot or window box of #hyssop https://www.edenbrothers.com/products/hyssop_seeds

@Sahkshi Batso. While I can make delicious loubiyeh b'zeit with za'atar bought in a Dublin shop. Never knew it was hyssop! Maybe hyssop should become for Palestine what the sunflower is for Ukraine

Two of the anise hyssops that were planted a day apart. First with frost damage, second without. It seems the older leaves were most susceptible to the frost but they were likely to die off anyway. There are green shoots on some of the browned leaf ones so I don't think any are actually killed off.
It was 2F degrees difference from one morning till the next and both there was frost.

Peppers and Hyssop day 38
Tomatoes day 8
Geraniums day 14
Forsythia day 6More tomatoes slowly coming up. The peppers are in slow mode since the extra overhead heat has been off. Two geraniums with signs of life, not looking good for the others. Hyssop needing to be planted. Forsythia cuttings getting leafier but not roots.

Peppers and Hyssop 34 days.
Geranium resurrection 10 days.
Forsythia cuttings 2 days.
There might be new life showing at the base of one geranium. First time wintering them bare-root, might just replant into these gallon pots this fall if they've survived.

The purple #hyssop flowers are now quite cheerful. I never expected this good of an outcome from a small broken stem. 🤗💕🪴💜✨
-
More flowers opened on the #hyssop spear! I wish I had some bumblebees… 💜🐝💕✨
-
Well, the hyssop flowers on the broken stem went to seeds and produced offspring. I repotted carefully, and here they are, thriving under the plant light next to a pot of basil seedlings. 🌱✨

Do things come in threes?
Here’s the last of my “broken” trilogy today:While planting the hyssop in my flowerbed, I found a broken stem. Probably by a cottontail.
I revived the broken plant in water, and put it in a small pot. Hopefully it’ll take root!
