Diagnosis: Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

After self-diagnosing, I got an official diagnosis. The victory of the official diagnosis was upstaged by the foot trauma two days previously, which I now know is a broken bone. However, at lest it’s in the same limb as all my other orthopedic trauma and severe arthritis. That’s really my saving grace right now — it’s a familiar injury. Adding another new mystery set of symptoms would be less welcome than rehatching an old burden.

Anyway, back to the art. I love some of the light interactive properties here that are hard to capture in a scan so:

Reflective properties close up, gold paint in the eyes, green metallic reflection for the dark around and in the eyes. The shimmer (ultra fine glittering particles) in the green ink are vibrant blue, and in the blue zebra stripes are color shifting, right now a rose.

145 regularmobile participants. 31.7% had broken any bones, 68.3% hadn't.

I conclude: hypermobility probably doesn't affect whether or not you break any bones, maybe?

I have also ordered CMC/MCP thumb combo splints, which I've been meaning to get for ages. I've got soft braces (which are great for giving them a break) and push metagrips (which are great for heavy work, like repotting or high-risk activities), but nothing for standard day-to-day wear on my thumbs

I have reordered my finger splints from a different company. The last company I ordered from has fine stuff, but this last order has turned into such a giant 8-month+ snafu that I'm just done.

New company should ship my order within a week.

Since the diagnostic criteria is clear that you’re #hypermobile and that’s it, what could be making it so bad?

Maybe cos as an autistic ADHDer, I’ve been very sensitive all my life and as my nervous system has felt too much, #anxiety has made my body tense up to protect me. Years of #massage including the #myofascial tissue, there’s been a hecking lot to release.

If it’s done too firmly, it all loosens briefly and tightens up again. I use my Thumper massager on setting 1.

How long will my throat feel like crap post #intubation?

Aka at what point do I whine at spouse to take me to urgent care to see if I picked up a secondary infection (I don't THINK so but I've been wrong before) or if they oopsed my hyoid or something (hashtag #hypermobile worries)? The alternative is I just heal slowly from that shit and wahhh.

I studied modern dance and #ballet when I was in my teens and 20s. I was drawn to it as an abstract art form. I was quite good... alas, I moved on from it lacking support. I was #autistic... no one knew I needed encouragement, no one knew that even though I was told a thousand fucking times by accomplished dancers and teachers that I was really, really good, I didn't believe it, but said nothing. I walked away from it.

I internalized everything. Held it all silently inside. But I was focused like a laser, unrelenting, practicing, practicing, practicing, beyond everyone else in our Hollywood studio in the Los Angeles area.

I would wake up at night doing plié exercises and leg extensions. I literally did ballet in my sleep.

For me it was a world of autistic "stim" every day, all week long, all month long. Heaven. It was ritual, routine, special interest, and hyper-focus all wrapped into one activity.

I tragically and so regretfully have no photos. When my teacher offered his students photos from one of our performances, which showed me flying through the air, my #hypermobile feet perfectly pointed, legs extended, all in perfect form, I rather cryptically, stoically and autistically declined. Who needs photos? There will be more photos on another day.

4/9 #EhlersDanlosSyndrome complicates things. I have the #hypermobile type, but my bruising and bleeding severity is more along the lines of the #vascular type. We opted for a procedure that doesn’t involve general anesthesia, because the risks and complications involved in that are huge. Some patients and OBGYNs jump straight to radical hysterectomy in cases like mine, but in addition to the anesthesia, there’d be extra surgical reconstruction to worry about given the risk of prolapse.
